QUOTE But the CBO says raising the min. Will cost jobs, this from an outfit the progressives love to cite till it goes the opposite of their philosophy. I'll include the actual report, because I fear you may have caught the cliff notes version from infowars or Fox. You're right though, CBO reports often give data that both sides can attack. You have to look at both, not just the spin from Alex Jones, Fox, or MSNBC.
Higher wages for 16.5 million, but far more as the report says if you factor in a basic economic theory that most of us have been saying for quite a while. Henry Ford knew it, FDR knew it, and anyone who understands what buying power in the hands of the consumer knows it.
But if you'd prefer, here it is straight from the report you brought up:
CBO: QUOTE Further, a few higher-wage workers would owe their jobs and increased earnings to the heightened demand for goods and services that would result from the minimum-wage increase. The increased earnings for low-wage workers resulting from the higher minimum wage would total $31 billion, by CBO’s estimate. However, those earnings would not go only to low-income families, because many low-wage workers are not members of low-income families. Just 19 percent of the $31 billion would accrue to families with earnings below the poverty threshold, whereas 29 percent would accrue to families earning more than three times the poverty threshold, CBO estimates. CBO: The Effects of a Minimum Wage Increase
That's a hell of a lot more than the Bush tax cuts to investors ever produced, and we lost a lot more revenue and jobs from that.

^^^and we've lost a lot of wealth and production under our present situation.
Personally I have no problem with a minimum wage increase but be prepared for the inflation that comes with it.
I keep asking a question though and maybe you'll answer it for me IE, how much? I mean enough to support one's self or enough to support a family? Of three, four, more??

^ I saw one of the shovel ready projects, it was by Forest Lake mn, about 20 miles of repaving on I35. It's called top coating, a couple of inches of asphalt over the top of the old pavement. In Mn., it's absolutely worthless, falls apart during the winter.
Hope your airport was treated better.

QUOTE What happened to all of those shovel ready projects? Probably the same thing that happened to Clinton's 100,000 cops program. Go to the new Albert Lea airport, you can see what happened for yourself to one of those shovel-ready projects. If you don't mind driving a few miles I can get you a list of plenty others. Let me know how many places you want to visit and I'll get you the locations of the projects and try to find the contractors who didn't have to send out pink slips as a result. Let's see the list. If Albert Lea is your example of prosperity and growth, then I've got some ocean front property to sell ya.
Now I know why Jim is no longer "allowed" to make public comments on this forum.
Nuff said.
