Since the subject came up in another thread, I thought it would be interesting to find out what are the musical tastes of people who visit this board. Consider this some harmless fun and rest assured that this poll is in no way scientific.
As for me, you may have seen my feelings towards Top 40 on another thread, and you could say I have almost the same feeling towards country. Personally, I rather enjoy a variety, but female jazz and blues singers have a certain place in my heart. Ironically, I also enjoy the sounds of hard and heavy alternative rock. I guess I am just a man with many tastes!

I like the oldies--but didn't find a place for them on the poll. Old rock & roll, even classic country. As I get older, I find myself not listening to jazz noodling or guitar riffs--I prefer harmonizing vocals. Hollies, Mama's & Papa's, ABBA, Beatles, Crosby-Stills-Nash & Young, Eagles, etc.
I pay more attention to the way the song is constructed--harmony, instrumental background, percussion, etc. I try to name the artist and the year of each song played (just a way to keep my mind active in my old age!).
Hoosier--see what you have to look forward to?

I tend to enjoy music that I can understand. The screaming lyrics don't do it for me. I still like the "Big Bands" sounds and the music of the the 50's and 60's. I used to like country...but how many songs can they write about a dog, a cheating wife, a pickup, and a can of beer?

Jim, most of those were bands of your generation, but don't forget bands like Blood, Sweat, and Tears; the Association, Rare Earth, the Ventures, Janis Joplin, or how about Mason Profitt or the Mahavishnu Orchestra? What, no more "Inagodadavita"! Still goda play that vinyl platter once in a while.

According to Hoosier, the "oldies" are for "oldies" like me! I've got to believe, though, that in 40 years, they won't still be playing Eminem, or Britney Spears (though they may still be playing her videos!) No Boy George or Culture Club, Adam Ant, Sex Pistols, Tiffany, David Cassidy, M.C. Hammer, or LL Cool J.
Forty years from now, they will still be trying to find the true meaning of Don McLean's American Pie--75 years later! Keith Richards just LOOKS like he's aged 40 extra years already. The Beatles lyrics will still be searched for meaning, Paul will REALLY be dead, but Mick Jagger and Dick Clark will still look like they do today!
Me, I'll be 96, and I'm told that if you hold your hand over your hearing aid just right, you can make the "feedback" sound just like Jimi Hendrix doing the National Anthem on his guitar!

My favorites, Rolling Stones, Van Halen, Aerosmith, ACDC, Metalica, Bon Jovi, Kiss. Mostly stuff from the 80s. I have found that as I get older, not as old as Jim though, that I have come to appreciate country a little more. Ones like Brad Paisly, he has the song about going fishing and his wife says if he goes today she wont be there when he gets back, he says, I'm gonna miss her, when I get home. Love that one. Travis Tritt.
Some of those I listed I listened to in high school, they have been around for almost 30 years. I agree with Jim, Britney will be an after thought in a few years, if she isnt already.
Have you guys heard about the group that wants to have a person commit suicide on stage? This is the same group that has in the past put live rats in a blender, mixed it, then drank from it on stage. Makes Ozzy Osborne look tame. LOL.
