I signed up for the do not call list. I hope it wins in court and is reinstated. But I do have to agree with the last judge that declared it illegal. Washington and the politicians have again taken something good and made it look bad by excluding themselves and their political parties from the law. Tax exempt charities I guess I can understand. But political parties? They have already created a class among themselves, this is the most taken care of, most pampered group of Americans anywhere, and they voted it all in for themselves, and we pay for it. They have a better retirement, the have better healthcare, the get cheaper RX drugs, they dont pay into social security, and now, they want to act like our saviors by stopping unwanted calls. That is all unwanted calls except the ones from them. If they are really serious about this, and want to stop all the legal challenges, they should just include themselves and the parties. I dont know about you, but an unwanted call at dinner time is an unwanted call, whether its from AT&T, or the Republican party. Nothing but more bull$hit coming out of Washington, it never ends.

Agreed--the law is flawed--it should never have contained those exemptions. Two other points in this story warrant consideration, however.
Isn't it amazing how fast Congress can push through a law when it wants to? By most news accounts, the new bill was pushed through in one day, after the first judge stopped the law. No "markups", calendar position, debate, filibustering, political horse-trading, etc.
Second, this shows the power of Federal judges--TWICE they have thwarted the clear will of Congress. While in this case, they stopped a poorly crafted law--a law that was poorly crafted BECAUSE of the need for haste--the ability of judges to "make law from the bench" has gone too far. While not UNANIMOUS, the votes in the House and Senate clearly indicated what the representatives wanted done. In many other laws, judges have stricken PARTS of the law, leaving the rest intact. What happened here?
With an evenly divided electoral college in Presidential elections, and an evenly divided legislative branch, the judicial branch has become the new power brokers in the nation--no wonder there is so much contention in getting new judges approved!

Jim, I agree, you would think they could do something about RX drugs for seniors just as quick. But when it comes down to it, they really dont want to. The drug companies have spent millions buying votes in Washington. The tele marketers have not. See how its done? Its not really about me and you, our politicians are all bought and paid for. No money, no support on capital hill, show me the money, and we can do business.

I happen to see Dorman on the news last night, stating the reason the politicians can still call is because it would be limiting political speech (or something like that).
The link to the article on TV6 website
Personally, I have been on the state DNC list since it started, yet I still receive 5-10 telemarketing calls per day. When will these people realize that if I want to refinance my mortgage or buy some siding I will look for them? I am getting to the point where I am thinking about just going cellular and letting the land line go since the telemarketers use it more than I do

cpu, if you have credit cards, you might contact the card issuers and ask them not to sell your name. I used to get all kinds of calls, and since doing that and getting on the do not call list, I average less than one telemarketer call PER WEEK.

I've gone mobile CPU slave. I haven't had a land line phone for over a year now and I have gotten two telemarketing calls. Two calls in a year beats 5 a day. I still am a bit confused on how these places got my number though, because I didn't do business with either one. On top of telemarketing calls almost eliminated in my life I pay for only one phone vs. my land line and cell.

Thanks for the tip Dustin, will have to check that out.
As for the land line, I will have to at least wait until NFL reg season is over or Directv will cancel my Sunday Ticket sub, and I can not live without it I do not mind the cost of the land line on top of the cell bill, as I shopped around and got great deals on both - since I do not have the kind of coin that minnow claims
So I guess even if I sign up for the DNC I still have to do all the work, so what good is the DNC in the first place?

CPU why would directv cancel your sub if you don't have a land line? Just wondering or maybe I misunderstood.

One can solve this problem himself. Get a unpublished number and don't give it out and virtually ALL calls will stop.
Now that wasn't so hard now was it. What's a matta...can't afford the extra few dollars a month that a private line costs?
Remember, if you ever want to know anything, don't hesitate to jerk minnow. He'll tell ya anything you want to know...

Oh Minnow...you're not a jerk...oh, wait...I read that wrong. I like having my phone number in the book. It makes it easier for friends and people in general to call me. I don't have a problem with telemarketers. I used to get really "ticked" when they called. One day I realized that these poor schmucks are just trying to make a living. At least they are trying to "earn" money and not living completely off the system. I "try" to be polite ...and then thank them and hang up. Some of us actually have to have our phone numbers published because we offer a service or a product that people might want to call us for. Now......if they would just quit mangeling my name.
