What's this? Another well-manufactured euphemism created by online anatoms?

eu·phe·mism

ˈyo͞ofəˌmizəm/
noun

noun: euphemism; plural noun: euphemism

a mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing.

You may have seen it, possibly already used it in debate. It goes something like this: "Your opinion doesn't matter when not backed by fact". Yep, it's a beauty. It's generally used when you want others to shut-up so you can keep blabbing more manufactured "facts".

Online prize-fighters now have another absurd senseless one-liner  punch to deliver. And imagine nursing home workers using this one on granny when she says the food tastes like crap. Cuz if granny can't PROVE with FACTS based on RESEARCH that nursing home food reminds her of the cow barn....her opinion is simply garbage; and she is then ignored and humiliated by workers.

"Your opinion doesn't matter..." Heard that mantra here too often. That pressure upon you to discredit not only others personal thoughts, emotions, personal experience; but your own as well. The internet is becoming ground zero to a world of "facts", processed information, and links. Personal experience is simply anecdotal.

Euphemisms as such are security blankets for the lost herd. Thus we have Donald Trump---a living breathing euphemism--- at 20% approval.

To satsfy the cravings of link freaks... a link from cyber ether, where opinions don't matter.

In a conversation about favorite ice cream flavors, your opinion matters, but in a fact based conversation your feelings or your opinion doesn't carry any weight, so it really doesn't matter. If that offends you then maybe you should stick with topics like favorite ice cream flavors.

Looks like you're right as rain.  Or maybe you hit the nail on the head.  Or better yet, it can be expected like poop on a plunger.

So if opinions matter, does that make you dumber than a box of rocks, or does my opinion not matter on that subject?

I'd say that is your opinion and you have a right to it.   It might matter to someone as egotistical as you, but facts are still facts.  Just my opinion.  :p

Thanks, hymiebravo. Your opinon on various topics is appreciated as well. Oops! We best not be too nice. Our accounts will be deleted.

The local online "fact" experts find opinion hard to digest. They believe spoken opinion should not be allowed to sway others beliefs and emotions, only long litanies of links and "facts". Therefore, they then must dismiss most religions, story fiction, philosophy, mythology, etc.

Relying on "facts" excuses a lack of imagination and personal responsibility(another human attribute in short supply around here). And it shows in the brief, often visceral comments, ironically empty of their precious "facts". The shade-tree pundits need to get offline, away from news media more often, breathe some fresh air, begin searching for a life once had.

And if their parroted "facts" or insults don't shut someone up they resort to semantics, hoping to fool others that their debates come from Oxford. And not the sandbox.

So in your mind facts are bad things? Only people I've ever heard say that are arrogant people that think their opinion is somehow equal or better than facts. As far as life experiences, this is the internet and people make stuff up. There was once a wealthy poster that was a retired young person that continually talked crap about us suckers that worked for money  instead of letting our money works for us.

Turns out he was a rather large marijuana grower, not retired in anyway. So life experiences don't mean a lot on the internet, because a lot of people are full of crap.

Another posters personal experience brought him to Antarctica where a ”scientist" told him the hole in the ozone had nothing to do with man, and it was naturally occurring. So generally opinions and personal experience don't mean crap because anyone can make up any crazy story.

Now if you used your real name and offered up proof then people might put more stock in your personal experience, or opinions. But as it is your just another anonymous poster on the internet.

If you're so easily upset maybe you'd feel better using a heavily moderated opinion site about favorite ice cream flavors. :dunno:
