Those are the types of discussion boards I gravitate towards these days.

Nothing wrong with facts...as long as they're facts. Twisted facts, I say, are more untrustworthy than personal opinion, for the reasons you stated. The news and the web are filled with twisted facts...and opinion. When someone states their opinion we know it's just opinion. When truth is twisted that is deception. Sifting through piles of artificially flavored facts to find truth may be entertaining to some. Not me.
The job of Winston in Orwell's "1984" was to manipulate truth for Big Brother. He saw the absurdity, and chose to live a more real life. Of course he was caught expressing his true feelings and paid a heavy price.
Beware! The Thought Police, jackboots and dogs, are prowling AL streets, the web searching for anyone being real, refusing to ingest the latest truth of the day.

QUOTE Now if you used your real name and offered up proof then people might put more stock in your personal experience, or opinions. But as it is your just another anonymous poster on the internet. So opinion and facts matter depending on WHO is making the statement?----does the person have a degree? Is this person of significant status among the community?
I never claimed to be a health specialist or financial broker. Just another anonymous citizen. Being anonymous is not synonymous with marginal thinking. Many great writers, including Shakespeare, chose pen names for various reasons, one being fear of the wrath of Thought Police.
Didn't this "true identity" debate surface on the Tribs forum when freedom of speech yet existed there? Most times outing an anonymous person is based on a desire for gossip and retribution, not a desire for truth.
But you're right. Forums can be littered with deceptive trolls, leading to mistrust. Those who react with ad hominem attacks feed the trolls...and the circle of buzzards waiting for someone to get flamed. Very little conversation or debate. Let the games begin.
The most popular flavor of "ice cream" around here is politics. Question is: how many times can this "ice cream" be ingested and regurgitated before it becomes soooo unnourishing, soooo stale, soooo full of phlegm? The political herd appears to prefer chewing on this political cud rather than explore new pasture.
Bon apetite.

What new pastures? This is an open forum if you want to talk about anything you can start a topic on that subject. We can't help you if nobody responds but feel free to use that topic as your own personal thoughts diary. Even if you don't get replies it doesn't meanpeople are not reading or that you aren't changing minds.
I've got a thread in the moderator forum that's probably over 100 posts documenting my recent health problems for the last couple years.. I post it there so that the other moderator know what's going on but mostly because I can go back and reference dates and tests.
When I started posting on the Tribune site I was attacked mercilessly by the conservatives and I thought I had no liberals backing me up. Later I'd have people thank me and explain that they didn't post for various reasons. Some felt they weren't articulate enough, or didn't want to be attacked, but most said it was because they were afraid of causing trouble at their workplace. So even if people don't reply, it doesn't mean that people don't appreciate what you say.

I love that service, I get my reports from specialists before my dr. does. They just contacted me about another service where I would have a nurse that I can call anytime for medical advice or to have that nurse contact my doctors.
It's also really helpful to keep track of your health. I find myself at almost every appointment with my tablet opened so I can tell them where to find certain tests or dr reports.

The health care system I go through has on line services and tracking, slick as can be. I can communicate with my doc, request prescription renewals and keep track of my health.
