Remembering when flour was milled in Albert Lea

This is just part one of two.  It says it was written by tribune staff, but it has Ed Shannon's style all over it.  Years ago that part of Albert Lea had not been drained yet (obviously)

You think Lou Rich is located where a lake or swamp was located or did the Mill move to that location?

I noticed on the map above a Mill located where the current Fountain/Albert Lea Lake dam is located.. :dunno:

George Ruble came to the area in July 1855, to find a mill site. Ruble built a log home near the proposed dam and mill site. When the dam was constructed at the east end of the slough area, a body of water was created. It was later named Fountain Lake.

http://www.cityofalbertlea.org/about-albert-lea/history/

"Ruble owned the site and the flowage rights, and Frank Hall bought an interest in the rights and built the mill and operated it. This is the mill that so many people remember as the Ruble mill, but in reality it should be designated as the Hall-Ruble mill. The original Ruble mill was a saw mill, but this new mill was a flour mill.
