I find it kind of ironic that in another thread Liberal mentions the Multinational Force & Observers. I find it ironic because in 1988 I was deployed with my Active Army unit on this very peacekeeping mission. It is also ironic that last weekend while visiting my mom in NW Wisconsin I stopped by my "adopted" parents house to pick up some items I was told they had for me. A shoe box with some pictures in it was one of those boxes and in it are the photos from a deployment I originally made over 20 years ago to the Sinai Peninsula.

The water you see is the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba. The Island is actually property of Saudi Arabia if I remember correctly.

I took this one just screwing around with my camera. I do not recall the model or anything specific other than it was a 35mm and I had several toys and lenses I could use with it. My apologies folks for this boring thread. I realize that these pics pale in comparison to those posted by Glu and others of the rich history of Albert Lea but the pics I have that date back to those olden days would not bring any memories to you folks since I am not from here originally. I am originally from rural North Central Wisconsin. I hope you do enjoy these pics of a trip that I look back on with some enjoyable memories.

W-eagle, the red white green flag is Italian ( I think )does it signify this multination force was under Italian command?
My mistake, it's a Hungarian flag the difference being horizontal stripes to vertical stripes on the Italian....plus the colors are reversed......

I'd say it's an Iraqi flag.

Actually Expatriate that is an Egyptian flag due to the fact that the Sinai is Egyptian territory.

Hymie my home turf is actually west and south a bit from your map. I grew up around Barron Wisconsin.

The Multinational Force and Observers is an organization of 11 or 12 (I forget how many) countries assigned to Peacekeeping duties in the Sinai Peninsula. This organization was formed during Carters years as President due to the Peace Accord signed between Israel and Egypt at that time. We always said the reason we were there was to keep Israel from kicking Egypt's azz again which when you think about it was mostly true.

I was assigned to an OP (Obesrvation Post) out in the middle of a "mountain" canyon. (I say "mountain" because these were not the mountains anyone would first think of. They were more like giant rocky hills) OP-36 only existed because that particular canyon was a high speed avenue of attack during the various conflicts between Egypt and Israel. Israeli armor and Mechanized Infantry could roll through that canyon pretty much unhindered and they caused a lot of chaos by doing just that.
