Here is a picture of AL around 1940. Very good resolution on photographs. Not sure of exact year but I can see construction crews erecting beams on the Freeborn County CO-OP building and also at the Litho Printing(old sears).

Another view to come.

Jim, I have a request if you or anyone else has any current aerial photos of Albert Lea that could be posted. I'm particularly interested in an aerial photo of the demolition of the old Albert Lea High School.

I took one yesterday.  I was taking photos of the Broadway area for a sesquicentennial project--not concentrating on the school.  Sorry.  I tried moving it over and pasting it here--must be too big to post.  I tried e-mailing and copying it to myself--for some reason, I can't post it to this transfer file.  PM me with an E-mail address, and I'll send it to you.

On the older aerial photos--note the absence of trees--we have far more trees today than they did back then.  Prior to and during the war, people used wood for heat.

Here's one from May 20, 2006 with a prominent view of what used to be the high school.

Why does it look like Otis the village drunk painted the crosswalks.

Many good men have died to guarantee your freedoms, live your life like it was worth dying for.

I have the ability to make the 1200 meter shot, but some targets deserve the up close kill, where you can watch the life leave the eyes while the blood ebbs from the body.
