For about 10 years I've been carrying around a $5 gold coin (1/10th oz) and a 1oz silver bar in my wallet. When I started carrying them they were worth about $50 total and I thought if I ever needed $50 I could unload them at any pawn shop. Now that they've gone up in value it's sort of pointless to be carrying them around since I could just as easily sell them and stick a $50 bill in my wallet, and pocket the difference.
So since there's no pawn shops left in town does anyone know where I could sell a $5 American Eagle gold coin minted in 2000 and an ounce of silver that's marked National Refiners and Assayers 1 oz Troy silver .999 + fine ?

These coins contain 1/10 of a troy oz. of gold, so to get an approximate price visit a site such as kitco.com or CNN Money to find the current price of gold per ounce. Divide that by 10 and add a couple of percent because the gold is in the form of a coin rather than raw metal.

Most jewelry stores will purchase them for fair market value.

Fishers here in town has a sign that says they buy gold and silver.
I have been thinking of getting rid of a Nolan Ryan stamp made of 24kt gold leaf...but not sure how much it weighs, nor how much it is worth now adays...or who to go to in order to find out. I was a serious collector "back in the day" and my parents bought this for me...right before he retired. Such is life...LOL!

Why sell off any gold or silver? With the dollar slipping, I'd rather horde precious metals like gold or silver.

Well, the reason a lot of people are selling their gold and silver is, they are running out of money to just pay for everyday expenses. There was an article just yesterday, that most Americans do not have the funds to cover an unexpected expense. See GD, some people just do not see the pain others are feeling. Run for office, you would fit right in.
