I was driving by the Airport and saw a sign ... didn't get a good look at it (too much traffic), but I think it said flying lessons for $49.00? Can that be right?

I've only flown once in my life and I liked it. My brother is a pilot and he would live in the air if he could.

Just wondering about Albert Lea's flying school and if I saw the sign correctly.

you did get a quick look! :>) it did state $49.00 but that is for an introductory lesson to see if you would like to continue!

The promotion is run by MN Aviation.  They do offer an introductory flying lesson for $49.00--they spend some time showing how an airplane operates, start it up, let you taxi it into position.  The instructor makes the takeoff--but you can keep your hands on the controls.  The instructor will demonstrate how the controls work--then let you try it yourself.

They spend about 30 minutes on the ground, and 20-30 minutes airborne with the student.  It really is a good deal, they do it as a "loss leader"--figuring that if you like it, you will continue.  The time can be logged toward your FAA license.

A number of people have tried it--and several parents purchased them for their kids as an introduction to aviation, just to see if they like it.  Though flying schools have been doing this for years, the ads HAVE had some negative effect--people think that if something is that cheap, there must be something wrong with it.  Maybe they should raise the price?
