if we don't crack down on nutjobs they'll be after all OUR firearms..

And the blind begin to see?

No, what I see as the problem—guys like you, who want no rules whatsoever!
Personally as I've said in the past these people on SSI are using my tax dollars they don't need to be squandering my money on an assault rifle for when they go bonkers. put them on the no buy list!

if you're on the no-fly list you're on the no buy list.

this kid in Florida is a prime example of lax laws concerning firearms
this kid should have never been allowed to legally purchase a firearm. Even you and Dragon will have to admit that..

there's a certain percentage of people that should NOT have guns no matter how you define the 2nd Amendment.

If we continue the NRA resist any gun law strategy it will end up in an over reaction.

I don't need a matty mattel or an AK but if you guys want to play army—what to hell go for it, but if we don't keep these weapons away from fruitcakes they will be after yours.

^^ so because someone else screwed up, all law abiding citizens have to pay.

As I've stated, maybe the FBI needs a house cleaning. Just like when a puchasing corperation comes in, everyone is fired and has to reapply.

Are you suggesting that if someone is on the no fly list they should be barred from arms with out due process?  That is unconstitutional.  People who are added to the list are not given their day in court and are unaware that they have been added to a secret govt watch list.

Cruz should have been arrested and charged over the course of his life, but yet no law enforcement followed up on it and as such he wasn't added as a prohibited person to the NICS, as such he was legally allowed to buy firearms.

The issue isn't the availability of firearms or "lax laws" as you put it, the issue is at the feet of law enforcement.  There are over 20,000 federal and state firearm laws, I would hardly call that "lax"

And you know the AR platform sold in stores is a far cry from being an "assault rifle" so quit being so melodramatic about it.

^^the AR15 platform is the civilian version of the M16—just because it doesn't have a selector switch to full auto or a 3 shot burst as the Marine rifle it hardly makes it any less of a military style assault weapon.

Fact is today's AR15 beats that POS jamming Matty Mattel M16 the Army issued in the 60's...it was made by Colt but problematic..

I'm not advocating for any ban, merely describing the weapon.
I don't know why you'd take offense, it is what it is..

I don't know why you'd take offense, it is what it is..

I didn't take offense to it, I was merely pointing out you had used the verbiage that the AR15 was an assault rifle which it clearly is not.

I mean we can list the differences:
Mechanically the lower receiver has an extra hole machined to pin the auto sear in place above the selector switch (also some manufacturer omit the machining inside the lower receiver to allow installation of an auto sear).

The selector switch in the M16 has extra grooves to allow it to disable the disconnector.

The disconnector has a little piece on the end of it that gets held down by the selector switch when placed in the auto/burst position.

The trigger has an open back design to allow for the auto disconnector.

The hammer has a hook to catch on the auto sear.

The bolt carrier has a longer section on the lower rear portion to trip the auto sear and release the hammer as it slams forward to chamber the round allowing it to continue firing until you release the trigger, on burst models the disconnector is released by the burst cam after 3 shots and stops firing until the trigger is pulled again.

Full auto and burst fire control groups both contain different parts from each other and the Semi Auto FCG.

M16 bolt carriers are legal in AR15s as they alone do not allow automatic operation.
Other than that the AR15 is just another modern version of any other old school semi auto rifle that function in the same similarity.  Modular type rifles are the next resultant evolution in firearm technology.

As for the other nomenclature usage of "assault weapon" there is no such category as the term is a made up political name given to modern rifles such as the AR and AK back in the 80s.

^^ yes, the M16A1, not an AR 15

Here watch one on a real weapon.

https://youtu.be/q4Y4Ky8P-lk

This all gets to be pointless, the AR, the M1A, the FNFAL, etc, etc, etc are not assault rifles, they are not fully auto or capable of three shot bursts. I doubt if modern versions have bayonet lugs any more because of the the assault weapons ban of the 90's. This is nothing more than fear mongering. Placing blame on an inanimate object, an excercise in impotence.
