A couple people have asked that I put a facebook "like" button on the forum, and I have no idea what a "like" button does. Can anyone fill me in on what a "like" button does, and where it would be useful on this site?

A "like" button is the same as:  yet you don't have to use the "quote" button..

I use the "like" button on facebook to let a person know that what they posted was cool without having to do anything but click "like"

Some people don't ever make a comment about a subject, but they will click the "like" button if they like the subject or the comment..

I think it would be awesome for Albert Lea Discussion Forum if not too much hastle for ya..

I use facebook and have also wanted to "like" some posts here from time to time. I would definitely make use of this.

Another feature that would be nice would be the ability to delete our own posts - however not delete a thread that we started once someone else has posted in it.

I know, I know, don't click "Submit" until you're sure... but sometimes when you have a slower than usual connection, you accidentally double-post - and sometimes you comment and later change your mind. We can already edit a post and simply type "Post Deleted", so why not allow us to actually remove the post? (Your posts would still show up if someone else quoted you in their post - just not in the original post.)

So what exactly does a like button do? I seriously don't use facebook, even on my birthday when people post birthday greetings, I pay my youngest daughter to respond to the posts instead of taking the time to learn to use facebook.

I'm just wondering what happens when someone clicks a "like" button? Would it post a link to the post on that person's wall, or does it post the text to that person's wall?

it just indicates you like, or agree with, what is said, without having to post... that's all.

I was thinking of the little thumbs up you see all over. I guess what I'm asking is would a "like" button be put on each individual posts, or do you put one on the topic in general?

And if the like button was on the topic what would appear on facebook if that button were pressed?

Both topic and comments..

You would set up your facebook page like DCCC http://www.facebook.com/electdemocrats and get as many people as you can to "like" your forum..

Then you would set it up to automatically or manually post new topic to your forum facebook page. Everyone that "likes" your forum would see every new topic on their wall in facebook.

Then you put a facebook link on your forum that allows anyone that has a facebook page to "share your forum" with all their friends and their friends friends and on and on..

As far as how you set up the like button on topics and comments would require some programming skills, maybe a special app you can get online to just show those reading the forum what people are liking or posters that are liked.. Nothing to do with facebook.. Thats it.

The only thing you would send to your forum facebook page would be new topics and people would be able to share your forum with all their facebook friends with a Facebook "Share this Site" or "Share this topic" Button or both on your forum site..

Thats all I got.. Good Luck and Thanks
