It's interesting what holds value and what doesn't over time. But, I've noticed this. When a person collects things they really like and has a good eye you'll always do better than someone buying as an investment.
For instance I've collected certain Schwinn kids bikes and have found unless you part out the value has dropped off significantly from it's peak by as much as 50%. Probably due in part the Bush/Obama depression era. However my passion and love was in collecting Huffy Rails. This stuff has gone up in value and demand significantly despite the depression. I wish I would've bought 500 Britney Spears life size standee's for instance back in 2004 even at retail. Thought they were really cool then, (certain ones) and sure enough, HUGE demand right now. Could easily have tripled my money, buy who knows? It's very easy to get burned when speculating and why I find speculation is not how one should collect.
I'm wondering what type of local collectors we have here. Does anyone collect anything or know anyone who does? I mean, not buy stuff to resell, but to collect.
Here's my advice: Watch for OFFICIALLY produced Miley Cyrus life size standees, buy a bunch in bulk for a good price if you can, sit on em for ten years, and --->EPRAY<--- she becomes a huge star! LOL. E-Pray is the new word I invented and can't stop saying. It means to list an item on Ebay and then pray that it sells in this economy so you don't get fee'd to death.
(She's got a good shot) then she freaks out, gets busted, pregnant and goes to jail and then comes back even bigger before freaking out again.
America really loves this sort of thing...I should know...
