Albert Lea Tribune hires new managing editorAssociated PressALBERT LEA, Minn. - The new managing editor of the Albert Lea Tribune is a 34-year-old Iowa native who spent the last five years as the managing editor of The Daily Record in Ellensburg, Wash.
Tim Engstrom started his new job in mid-February. "I'm going to see how the operation runs," he said. "After some time, people are going to start seeing my thumbprint in the paper."
Engstrom grew up in Pomeroy, Iowa - about 63 miles northwest of Ames - and graduated from Iowa State University with a journalism major. "I enjoy writing and I enjoy people, and journalism is a way to meld the two," Engstrom said.
Engstrom worked for The Tribune in Ames and The Courier in Conroe, Texas, before moving to Washington state. He's also a veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
Publisher Scott Schmeltzer praised his new managing editor.
"We're happy to have Tim as part of our team," Schmeltzer said. "I think he'll play a vital role in the community as well as on the staff of the Albert Lea Tribune."
The Tribune is a six-day-week newspaper with circulation of about 6,300 on weekdays and about 7,000 on Sundays.

Sorry MD, had that two weeks ago in this thread. The AP must have just picked up the story.  Read it in the Tribune first!
