For those who don't get the A.L Tribune.  A letter to the editor from Tony Trow.  I'm not going to type it all in (no scanner), because it's quite windy.  It starts by listing the duties of a Co. Commissioner, and then list 6 questions he feels in his wisdom you should ask to make an informed choice of whom to vote for.  Then he continues:

Quote
Some of the challengers have announced that they have never bothered to even attend a Co. Board meeting before. Others have said that they are running primarily to punish our sitting Board for building the new courthouse and jail. These were actions which needed to be done and which cannot be reversed.
Some have also said they wish to punish the Board for deciding to tear down the 1954 building. Still others have said they wish to take over control of the County Board so that they can prevent any efforts to clean up our lakes and streams. All but the last goal have been reported in the Tribune. If you really care about our future and wish to make this new century a great one for Freeborn Co., be certain to ask questions and consider your vote carefully.
If you look carefully you will find some very poor choices out there and some pretty good ones. Whatever you do, become an informed citizen and get out there and vote.
Tony Trow
Albert Lea

Could someone please tell me when the paper reported these horrendous claims made by certain candidates, and what candidate made what claim?

Now with this information given at this late date, what should an uninformed public do?  For go the primary because what if they vote for someone who is just trying punish the board or worse yet prevent clean up of our lakes and streams?  Or maybe just vote for the incumbant to be safe.

Hoosier you're right about Tony Trow.  :finger:

Here is another letter to the editor from 9/02/04.  I can handle opposing opinions, but the tribune put this letter in again on 9/03/04. If anyone has ever had a hard time getting a letter published in the paper before, this ticks me off.  What were they thinking? This letter is soooo fabulous, lets print it in tomorrows paper too.  (A little bias if you ask me!) I really doubt an anti-incumbant letter would have got double billing!!:p

Quote
County succeeded with new government center
I was lucky enough to have recently been given a tour of the new Freeborn County Courthouse by Commissioner Glen Mathiason.
I was impressed by the simple beauty of the building as well as the amount of thought put into every detail of the design.
All the county services are easily accessible and will be much more efficient. The courtrooms are grand and will give the feeling of authority that the court workers deserve.
I was most impressed with the county jail. It is highly secure and very spacious. It should more than meet the needs in Freeborn County and eliminate the backlog that they currently deal with. Also, additional income could easily be gained by housing inmates from other counties.
All Freeborn County residents should be extremly proud of our soon to be completed courthouse. I would consider it one of the most efficient in the state.
Our County Commissioners spent many months and even years discussing, planning, and agonizing over how best to meet the needs of our county. I think they have succeeded and would ask you to thank them and praise them for their hard work.

That letter is proof the paper is in bed with the powers that be. Only problem is...is that the powers that be "won't be" for very much longer!  :D

I have to admit, I havent seen any person running for commissioner say they were in it to punish anyone.

Trow is a liar and an idiot, his writings in the paper just go to prove it.

There are candidates out there that you should know about, and its the ones taking Trows advice.  :D

DrBombay, I also live in your district and I am pretty sure we are talking about the same person here.

It pains me to say this in this forum, but my wife is one of those voters that support people that she knows. If she doesnt know you, you got no shot at getting her vote.     This pi$$es me off to say the least.

Anyway, she approves having this guys sign in our yard(Rufsus) spelling?  :D  I have Chads sign in the yard also. Amazing how much attention people pay to these yard signs.

The sign from this person(Rufsus)  was only in my yard for 2 days when I started getting calls about him(Rufsus) hangin out with Tony Trow. I told my wife this and she told me to go take this persons(Rufsus) sign down, NOW. Maybe she listens to me after all.  :D

Trow and the people that he supports, or the people that support him, are against everything this forum stands for. You want change and better government, a government that listens to everyone? Then dont support anyone involved with Trow.

Trow likes things just the way they are now. You see, he has a seat at the table, or in other words, he has the commissioners ear. He doesnt get this by being powerfull or having anything new to offer. He gets it because he is a world class @ss kisser. The sickening thing is that we have commissioners that eat this attention up.

These people dont want you and I to have a seat at the table, because you see, they think only they know what is best for you and I. We are just to stupid to decide important matters on our own, we need their guidence. (Bull$hit).

Trow sees the writing on the wall, he sees that all three of his beloved commissioners are going to lose their reelection bid(Mullenbachs time will come soon) and he sees his access to the political process being diminished.

The difference between us and the people we support and the Tony Trows of the world is that we want everyone to have a say, to have a seat at the table. Even Tony Trow. But ours will be a much more balanced table, it will listen to the many and not the few.

If you think things in this county and town are doing great, no room for improvement, then support Trow and the people he does(Rufsus).

If you think we can do better and need new leadership that will make the communites opinions a top prority, then support any of the people running against the incumbents. Or for that matter, anyone Trow supports(Rufsus).

One last thing, if this unknown person(Rufsus) reads this post, come and get your worthless yard sign out of my garage before I burn the piece of $hit. This is what I think of yoor campaign and the people that support you(Tony Trow). :finger:

Thanks for the post of the letter to the editor DrBombay.  The letter on 9-02 really amazed me, it would be funny if she wasn't serious about her observations.

All the county services are easily accessible and will be much more efficient.

I'm sure that's what they say in the tour, but I've talked to staff members in one of the departments that are furious about the new layout.  Some comments are that it's difficult for the public to find, and has a serious lack of parking.  It could've been avoided, but no one would listen to their input.
I went to see the rest of it thru the back entrance, and went up the stairs to see the other floors, and ended up in a large vacant room filled with construction supplies.  At the end of the floor was a drop off (with on railing) that went strait to the floor below.  No signs saying that it was closed to the public, or even instructions for a different stairway to use.  I picked up the phone to ask how to get to the second floor, and they said I had to have a reason to be there, and have a staff member with.  So much for efficiency. ???

The courtrooms are grand and will give the feeling of authority that the court workers deserve.

So now a new facility isn't enough, we had to spend extra to give them an ego boost?  The authority they have comes with the job, it doesn't come from the architecture!

Also, additional income could easily be gained by housing inmates from other counties.

We heard a lot about this before it was built, but not so much anymore.  If this additional income is so "easily gained", how much have we made so far?

I went to change my voter registration and get an absentee ballot for the general election (I didn't move in time to get in for the primary)... it took me 3 tries to get to the correct office.  Then, once I got there, I was standing at the counter without anyone taking notice that I was waiting because of the funky way in which the partitions, you know, block all view of the front counter.

I waited.  And waited. After about 7-10 minutes, I went over to the clerk at the opposite desk and asked if I was in the right office.  She said, "Yes. No one's helped you yet?" (Gee... how sharp of you to notice!)  After another few minutes, she reemerged with another clerk who, behind the partitions, didn't know that anyone was waiting.

And then, explaining a foreign address for absentee ballotting... ever so much fun.

The fact that the Tribune could have and should have verified the facts in Trows letter and failed to do so is what really makes me mad .  Talk about miss-leading the public right before the primary.  Trow out and out lied, and used the tribune as his source.  The Tribune did nothing which is a pitiful display of poor journalism.
