A good observation, Irisheyes.  "Doctrines", laws, treaties, Supreme Court Judges, programs, policies, etc. have the ability to last for decades after a President leaves office--is there any doubt that the Roosevelt legacy (Social Security, Public Works, etc.) isn't still being felt?  Truman's decision to drop the bomb?  Kennedy's race to the moon?  Johnson's decision to escalate the war in Vietnam?  Watergate?  The "Reagan Doctrine" of military buildups that won the Cold War?  Like him or loathe him, we will be living with the effects of the Clinton administration for decades--you can't talk politics or policy without including former administrations.

Clinton has been described, by journalists, republicans, and democrats alike as "the elephant in the room"--something or someone too big to be ignored.  A Gore spokesman complained "When he walks into a room, it just sucks the air right out of the room"--meaning the limelight is drawn away from the person who is supposed to be the center of attention.  It appears that Democrats may be ASKING for Clinton's help in this election. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=38718
