Governmentium
A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest chemical element yet known to science. The new element has been tentatively named "Governmentium".
Governmentium has one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 11 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of Governmentium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete when it would normally take less than a second.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of three years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.
In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to speculate that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as "Critical Morass".
You will know it when you see it.

I know of at least one car dealer that finds it just as fast (and a lot more friendly) to get in his car and drive to the privatized office in Austin to do plates and transfers.
No need to wait in line, though--tabs and plates can be purchased by mail or on-line. A 37 cent stamp beats waiting in line--takes about a week by mail--3-5 days online.
When we first started attending County Board meetings a little over a year ago, Commissioner Belshan suggested that perhaps Freeborn County should LOOK INTO privatizing the office (not a motion to DO so). I believe it was defeated on the usual 4-1 vote ("don't even CONSIDER the move?") The other commissioners should be embarrassed.
Interesting sidelight--when we went on the tour of the new courthouse, it was explained that the license bureau would have its own entrance, and could be sealed off from the rest of the building--IN CASE IT IS EVER PRIVATIZED, OR WOULD BE OPEN HOURS OTHER THAN THE COURTHOUSE. County Administration KNOWS there is a problem--they won't admit it publicly, but they have made provisions in the new building to accomodate the problem they "don't have".

Why can't anyone be honest anymore? Why isn't honesty and truth valued anymore.. Why is it so hard for people to be honest.
Why can't somebody be like George Baily and just tell it like it is.

I can live with the time in line, but they have on several occations ask me a question that requires me to leave and go through the process again at a later time. The last time this happened to me, my brother gave one of my sons an old car he had licensed in Nevada. I went in twice to get the title switched, each time they came up with a question I couldn't answer. I went to Austin, no line, no questions, just service. I paid the fee and was gone in less than 5 minutes. I wish Austin was closer!

[color=darkblue]Funny you should mention this about the license bureau because I need to get my license renewed this week and new tabs. Just what I wanted to spend my $$$ on right before Christmas..... no time to wait for people to be taking breaks in plurals just as I get to the front of the line. Think I'll swing over to Austin. Thanks for the advice

Dan Belshan has opened my eyes about what the then candidates, and now County Commissioners said about issues during the campaign. It is sad that the four County Commissioners that vote in one unified step, time, after time after time after time, always, always, always against Dan Belshan actually thought for themselves prior to taking office.
