The county administrator presented an idea to the county board last night to sell advertisement over the urinals at the courthouse.  They are looking at getting $15 a month per ad and there will be 10 ads.  So this idea is going to net them $150 a month.

I asked Commissioner Springborg after the meeting if he realized that they had just made a fools out of our county again and asked where else they planned to advertise. I suggested that we could maybe sell some ad space on the squad cars to make a couple bucks and he said they've already considered it. I suggested getting in contact with GoldenCasino.com(the place that advertises on different fighters backs) and ask them if they were in interested in advertising on the back of our judges robes. And he said, I was just beng ridiculous with that suggestion.  I wasn't intentionally being ridiculous with that suggestion I was just trying to make a point of where do we draw the line and he didn't seem to understand the concept.

He said with the budget this tight he's open to anything to bring money in. And he would rather have something to look at and read when he's urinating, so his eyes don't wander(or the guys next to him eyes don't wander, I can't remember which one he said)

I suggested if they wanted to hang something up there to read maybe they should consider the Bill of Rights over the urinals, that way they might learn something while the shirkers are in there.

If they go ahead with this idea I'll be first in line with my advertisement(a copy of the bill of rights and a small editorial about the board).  And if/when they resuse to accept it then I guess we'll have another free speech issue to hash out in court.

And I suppose they could have matrons in the ladies rooms selling toiletries (three sheets of paper for $.50 should do)  They are going to have a flat roof on the courthouse, why not sell aerial ads to some dotcom company?

Freeborn County Administrator Ron Gabrielsen said the number of signs could be as high as 10, and would be limited to bathrooms except for two in the hall.

He suggested the ads only advertise local businesses, and thinks they would likely be ads for lawyers and bondsmen.

I can't think of a bettter place for them to advertise  .  Maybe Squires will buy an ad for Gab's executive washroom in the courthouse.

He said it would be a small bit of revenue, but would ultimately lower the county's tax levy.

Just like peeing in the lake will ultimately raise the water level  :D .

Why stop at ads in the washrooms--we can get REALLY creative--after all, these are the guys that thought we could raise money (to pay for the courthouse, I presume) by selling the County fairgrounds and maybe some of the parks!  From there, it's a short stretch to:

Sell naming rights to lakes--after all, hasn't Albert Lea Lake had the name long enough--how about Alliance Energy Lake?

Sell naming rights to streets and roads--i.e., "Lou-Rich Road"

How about advertising in the windows of the new courthouse?  The old buildings downtown had window signs in them, advertising "Dr. Kaplan, Dentist" etc.

$150 a month=$1800 a year--heck, I know a guy that would pay that much a MONTH to put up a big yellow sign! :D

Assuming $2,000,000 per year debt service, that comes to $5479 per day--divided by the $1800 brought in per YEAR for bathroom signs--that means we could pay for about 1/3 of a day of debt service with an entire YEAR of bathroom signs.

OR, WE COULD HAVE SIMPLY SPENT LESS MONEY, AND NOT HAD TO PROSTITUTE OUR PUBLIC BUILDING.

We pay for a county attorney that don't go to the meetings, Gab hires a private attorney, wasen't that $3000 bucks and now He wants to hang signs in the urinal, good god what next. O well I guess that Gabs pi$$ house signs could pay for for his attorney in less than 2 years----What a deal!!!

How 'bout hanging pictures of the commisioners on the walls, whoops, they'd have to clean the bathroom walls then.

Pissing in the wind, betting on losing a friend, making the same mistakes we swore we'd never make again.  Pissing in the wind, and it's blowing on all our friends.  We're gonna sit and tell our grandchildren.

If there is enough interest, then maybe we could build more bathrooms. How about placing advertisements on the back of stall doors in the women's room. What about all the advertisement room on Gab's forehead? I think we are onto something here! Maybe we should hire an outside advertisement agency too come up with even more ideas, or we could hire the hot babe Pam Bishop!
