I thought you would be blowing your horn of victory that the herd will be culled or there can only be survival of the fittest.. :dunno:  Right-winger Shimmy Jimmy would be blowing the loudest horn..

Liquor stores will benefit and bars will lose in the border towns..

No law says they have to be open if they choose to not be open..

In my opinion, this issue is nonsense and a total waste of tax payer money.  The legislature has been in session how long this year and so far this is what they have to show for it?

It's been this way for 150 years, people should be use to it.  If you want to drink at home on Sunday, by now you should know you need to get what you want before Sunday.

I would like to see some proof of "millions" of dollars going to other states only on Sundays because of this.  If that is true, real poor planning on peoples part.

Hey legislature, how about you get to work on real issues in this state.  Infrastructure is a mess (AL Cit - bet you would be for them throwing some $ to upgrade the storm lift station and outlet pipe), health care is an issue.  Drugs and the crimes are destroying not only families, but also their communities.

But thank God we can buy booze on Sundays soon!

^^ I'm all in for small business, in case you haven't been paying attention small business is what I do.

So the small town bars must pay too, least the ones that are on sale only.

All I'm saying here is that there's a lot of layers to this onion.

So you're fine with Hyvee and Kwik Trip selling liquor 24/7?  Just getting the score set here. So mom & pop stores wouldn't be forced to open on Sunday if they didn't want to? Seems to me they'd lose a lot of foot traffic business to the bigger stores and not only on Sunday yet if they stay open not enough business to cover overhead.

So you're all fine with bigger businesses taking over.

I don't think it is governments job to pick winners and losers. I said that about bush and obama and them giving millions to the likes of GM, Solyndra, etc...
But as for this issue, I can speak to me personally.  I will still go to my favorite liquor store. A small mom and pop shop.  If they chose to not open on Sunday, that's fine with me.  If I need a bottle on a Sunday I'll go where one is open, but I can guarantee that come Monday I'll be back at my mom and pop store buying it.

^^ that's nice and small businesses appreciate loyal patrons. In my opinion that's a big reason why small businesses are successful.

I've ran out of joy juice on Sunday and wasn't ready to call last call, the party had to go on.. Then off to the bars half toasted only to drive home fully toasted.. I admit that it wasn't smart but liquor doesn't exactly increase your IQ..

Now I rarely go out, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis with a designated driver or a cab..

^^ yes please, stay with the designated driver, many people die because of selfish, thoughtless idiots.

Totally agree with G.I.L. and the others here.  This is the only thing I'm glad to see the Republicans pursue.  It's silly to use a draconian Sabbath law as an excuse for special interests.

They wouldn't be forced to do anything.  It's a choice.  Just like a small business such as a hardware store, furniture store, pet store, etc. wants a day off, they either take it or they don't.

This thread seems to show your true colors, when it comes to a real competition, you want the government to step in.  Everyone else is saying let them compete.

I see you're not paying attention again but that seems to be your MO. Through out this thread I've only played devils advocate, pushing the theory of a reaction for an action.

True colors? I would like to see a lot less regulation, wether it's advantageous to myself or not, part of being in business is being adaptive . I doubt as to wether or not snowflakes like you could survive without regulation though.

The other point that was brought out was that it would decrease drunk driving, I doubt that it would but if it were to that would be a big bonus. DUI laws are far too lenient. I personally know of one case of a multiple offender who's had 4 with nothing more than a slap on the hand.
