That idiot B Todd Jones is on record as stating that all  5.56 ammo is a threat to law enforcement and would like to have the round banned for civilian use, so I can see why people started frenzy buying up M855 ammo when the news came out about the misprint.  I have no idea on why anything 5.56 is being used as a lightning rod, any intermediate rifle cartridge will defeat the level IIIa body armor that is in use by most police departments.

As for suppressors, there is absolutely NO reason as to why this device was even added to the NFA.  Suppressor should be readily available to buy just as you would a gallon of milk.

I think a ban on suppressors is ridiculous, how many crimes do you see them used in? I would like to have one for my .22. Those squirrels scatter at loud noise.

Legal and easy to obtain here in Louisiana.  When is Minnesota going to join the other states that do not interfere with citizens obtaining suppressors to be used or is Minnesota still stuck on being a nanny state?

I personally have no use or want of a suppressor, I've seen vids on how to make them, looks pretty easy. Batman would probably get pissy obout homemade ones.

Gman, you have be quiet and sneaky to go after squirrels, like this guy...

QUOTE
18 U.S. Code § 921

(17)
(A) The term “ammunition” means ammunition or cartridge cases, primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for use in any firearm.

(B) The term “armor piercing ammunition” means—
(i) a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or

(ii) a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile.

© The term “armor piercing ammunition” does not include shotgun shot required by Federal or State environmental or game regulations for hunting purposes, a frangible projectile designed for target shooting, a projectile which the Attorney General finds is primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes, or any other projectile or projectile core which the Attorney General finds is intended to be used for industrial purposes, including a charge used in an oil and gas well perforating device.

Green tip M855 rounds made in 5.56 are made of mostly lead, not steel and/or trace elements.  Armor piercing by their definition isn't necessarily if a mass can penetrate armor, but the way the ammunition is constructed. What the problem is, is the wording; "a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun."

Most 5.56 standard ball ammunition is just as armor piercing as green tip munitions.  Nearly every center fired caliber is capable of penetrating a bullet proof vest and the government knows it.  If the government (Obama and B. Todd Jones) would have been successful getting the M855 banned, most 5.56 if not all could have followed.

With the introduction of a AR-15 handgun, not the individual ammunition, but the caliber could be lost in the future if we let government run amok.  Bans have already started with the advent of a 7.65x39 (AK-47) pistol.

I'd agree with S.B. A suppressor would come in handy for people in the country who don't want to have the neighbors complain when they shoot a varmint.  The rest of us can't shoot in the city limits anyway, we'd risk getting a ticket or hauled off to jail.  And there's not much point in going to target shoot at the range with a footlong extension at the end of the barrel that'll only reduce the decibel by 20 or so.

There will be people who buy it as a novelty item, kind of like many of those cheaper ugly guns like the MAC-10 with the long flash suppressor I see at gun stores sometimes.  To each his own, I guess.
