Austin Daily Herald obituary policy:
First-run obituaries, with a photo, are a free service of Austin Daily Herald. Notices are arranged through funeral homes. A second-run obituary, with or without a photo, is $35.

Albert lea tribune obituary policy:
Obituaries are $45 without a photo, $50 for an obituary with a standard photo and $60 for one with a one-column photo. Notices are arranged through funeral homes.

maybe the al tribune needs to adjust their policy!

the above notices were taken from their web sites.

There is no other competition in Albert Lea.  I think the daily herald competes with the Post.  :dunno:

The Austin version of the Post Bulletin went under. It's just the Daily Herald now.

You would think that Boone Publishing would set the policy for both. Apparently not.

They really should combine with the Daily Herald and have one paper for both communities. It might save them some operating costs and maybe, just maybe, we'd have a marginally better paper.

Or, it could be exponentially worse.

At any rate, I'd be surprised if we had no paper at all. They have the only game in town, so things would have to be REALLY bad for them to have nothing.

Or some of our local folk who use the letters to the editor section as their own weekly column?

Or the TV listing in Sunday's paper that lists about half of the channels available here?

Or pictures of one club handing a check to a non-profit organization?

:D

They seem to have combined already.  Format on their websites is the same, some policies (online comments) have been changed to the same, and many stories are identical.

Pretty soon it'll be like KAAL where the trib just reports less and less on Albert Lea.

The obituary prices?  Well, if you've seen our demographics and population decline you'll know we're a dying town; the obituaries are where the real bucks are.   :;):
