I guess the only thing I have heard about the jail was that it was about full. I had fun trying to park at the courthouse a couple weeks ago. I was astounded by all the room and office cubicles and nobody in them. One office I was in had 12 cubicles and there were two people there. One was working and the other was visiting with a custodian. I was wondering where all the other people were. ???

Of course, they built a facility for a town of 45,000. And we have 18,500 and going south...

Oh, but did I mention that we can jail more meth heads?

This was on the 26th of January.

There are 80 inmates in the jail today.
41 are in the General population cell block.
23 are in the work release/sentence to service cell block.
6 are female inmates.
10 are in holding/classification cells, or on lock down status for jail rule
violations.

The highest jail population has been 91 since moving into the new facility
114 days ago.

This reminds me...somebody should send Jean a Monopoly "get out of jail free" card. When Iowa's ex-governor Branstads son got drunk and killed someone with his vehicle he had the audacity to flash a get out of jail free card while going into court. And of course it must have been valid because he walked...

Maddog--good boy! :D   I don't know how you come up with some of this stuff!

Question--what is the capacity of the new jail?  If we have 80 inmates, what percentage is occupied?

I know from Gabe's tour that certain cells must be "reserved" for certain classes of offenders.

Just have ask the right people, I guess.  It's all P.I.

It's roughly 140 beds, depending on "occupents."  You figure it out.  We should be renting out beds.

How much had we been paying out per inmate before this stockade got up and running?

Is this something that's up to the county board, or is this Harig's call?

No offense to Mr. Westland.

So, the Freeborn County Bed and Breakfast is barely or just over half occupied. We get what $75 per inmate from other counties. We're losing out on $135,000 a month. Chicken feed compared to the interest we're paying for Gabes castle.

Beds aren't going for anywhere near $75 a day. Mower county is putting them down in some county in Iowa for less than $50 a day.

The only chance we've got of filling that jail now is if the judges go on sentencing spree.
