6/28/05 - "The work in Iraq is difficult and it is dangerous."

5/24/04 - "The mission of our forces in Iraq is demanding and dangerous."

6/28/05 - "Like most Americans, I see the images of violence and bloodshed. Every picture is horrifying, and the suffering is real."

5/24/04 - "We've also seen images of a young American facing decapitation. This vile display shows a contempt for all the rules of warfare and all the bounds of civilized behavior."

6/28/05 - "Some of the violence you see in Iraq is being carried out by ruthless killers who are converging on Iraq to fight the advance of peace and freedom."

5/24/04 - "Mr. Saleem was assassinated by terrorists seeking the return of tyranny and the death of democracy."

6/28/05 -"Like free people everywhere, Iraqis want to be defended by their own countrymen, and we are helping Iraqis assume those duties."

5/24/04 - "Iraqis will know that when they build a school or repair a bridge, they are not working for the Coalition Provisional Authority, they are working for themselves.

And when they patrol the streets of Baghdad or engage radical militias, they will be fighting for their own country. "

6/28/05 - "And the best way to complete the mission is to help Iraqis build a free nation that can govern itself, sustain itself and defend itself."

5/24/04 -"Our coalition has a clear goal, understood by all: to see the Iraqi people in charge of Iraq for the first time in generations.

America's task in Iraq is not only to defeat an enemy, it is to give strength to a friend -- a free, representative government that serves its people and fights on their behalf."

6/28/05 - "Some Americans ask me, If completing the mission is so important, why don't you send more troops?

If our commanders on the ground say we need more troops, I will send them. But our commanders tell me they have the number of troops they need to do their job."

5/24/04 - "Our commanders had estimated that a troop level below 115,000 would be sufficient at this point in the conflict. Given the recent increase in violence, we will maintain our troop level at the current 138,000 as long as necessary."

6/28/05 - "They are trying to shake our will in Iraq, just as they tried to shake our will on September 11, 2001. They will fail."

5/24/04 - "I sent American troops to Iraq to defend our security, not to stay as an occupying power. I sent American troops to Iraq to make its people free, not to make them American."

6/28/05 - "To achieve these aims, they have continued to kill: in Madrid, Istanbul, Jakarta, Casablanca, Riyadh, Bali and elsewhere."

5/2/04 - "We've seen killers at work on trains in Madrid, in a bank in Istanbul, in a synagogue in Tunis and at a nightclub in Bali."

Bush continues to link the actions we took agains Afghanistan, with the actions he alone mislead us into taking in Iraq.  I believe that we were within a breath of accomplishing good things in Afghanistan for both that country and the region, but our full efforts tword that objective were diverted by his administrations obsession with Iraq.  Now we have mounting troubles in both countries.  In Iraq we are fighting a gorilla action with an insurgancy that appears to be growing in its effectiveness and its ability to drag the region into civil conflict.  So what is the answer.  From what I listened to last night, the President says we need more of the same go it alone BS.  To my way of thinking, we will need 3 times the 150,000 troops committed if we don't get on top of this situation, but the President and his leadership seem to be somewhat divided, so we will move ahead changing nothing and hope for the best.
