Austin police recently held a young man for 10 days over Christmas due to the fact a field drug test for epsom salt allegedly came out positive.

"Police Capt. Dave McKichan said preliminary field tests are typically accurate"

Why, yes they are and why Epsom salt would NEVER test positive for cocaine under any circumstance unless cocaine, even trace amounts were in it.  Turns out...It was in fact epsom salt so the result they claim could never be true and you, I and Detective Columbo knows it. I guess in this drug war, truth is the first casualty.

Yeah, he sounds like such an upstanding citizen, otherwise...  :p

Upstanding citizen? Maybe not in your opinion but regardless we do not or should not live in a police state.

I guess I don't understand why you would claim this situation offers any proof that MN citizens are being made to suffer by living in "police state?

Plz explain...

There's no way this field test was positive. THAT'S a lie. The state tests confirm no coke was in  the salt. TO PROVE IT LET'S TAKE 100 POLICE FIELD TESTS of epsom salts and see how many turn positive. NONE WILL.
It turned positive because some punk said it did when it didn't.  And chit like dat is OK in Botto's mind.

What happened is what Botto's attitude suggests. They wanted to punish him because he was on probation and they were in his house. He was the "bad guy".

Quick google search cites many sources for cocaine being cut with epsom salts, not accusing, just saying.  Another thing, Ladies and gentlemen you might want to steer clear of this dude.  He seems to have poor judgment, poor choice in friends but most off really bad luck.  Poor judgment----either stealing stuff or buying stolen property.  Poor choice in friends---"i put it in my safe so my friends wouldn't think it was something to get high off from"  Really bad luck--he got bit by a dog so he bought epsom salts to soak his hand in.  Then said dog ate the original package the epsom salts came in.  Which he thought his friends would use it to get high so he put it in his safe with his synthetic marijuana.  Then his place was searched and the cops took his fake pot, and a ziplock bag of mystery white stuff To which he had had to stay in jail while the BCA tested it to confirm that it was what the upstanding citizen said it was.  Comedy of errors, his not the cops.

I guess you just have to chalk it up to life in the sticks.

That's the way things work out in the "boonies" for the most part. . . .

Right?

Without these sorts of goings on: What would the paper and TV news have to intrigue and titillate their potential audiences with?

Isn't Christmas observed on December 24th and 25th?

Why are you claiming this young man was being held for 10 days over Christmas when it appears to be that the charges against him and his release occured on December 20?

Seems to me what Botto's attitude is suggesting is that people who have a prior conviction of a crime and/or who are on probation, typically are subjected to "suspicion" and "questioning" of their ability to be law abiding and honest citizens.
