Minnesota Senators Cutting Daily Expense Payments
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota senators will get $10 less a day in their daily expense payments, part of belt-tightening promoted by the new Republican majority.

The Senate Rules and Administration Committee approved the 10 percent reduction on Monday.  The move cuts per diem payments to $86 from their previous level of $96 a day. The payments had been raised in 2007 from $66 a day.

Deputy Majority Leader Geoff Michel (mish-ELL') says the move is symbolic but that symbolism matters. The state is facing a $6.2 billion deficit over the next two years.

A House panel is scheduled to meet later Monday to discuss reductions in lodging reimbursements for House members.

The base salary for Minnesota legislators is $31,140, plus allowances for daily living expenses, lodging, mileage and telecommunications.

So on top of the $31,140 per year they are only going to get $31,390 for expenses. How sweet of them.

Yeah, but it's $10 a day LESS for every one of them than the Donks had LAST year.

The Donks didn't cut their expenses AT ALL.  This  legislature CUTS THEIR OWN EXPENSE for a change, and you complain that it ISN"T ENOUGH?

That's a 10% reduction in one year.  If ALL GOVERNMENT was cut 10%, that would be a pretty good start.

Cutting their own expenses FIRST was a good thing.  People get tired of legislators making laws that don't apply to THEM.

C'mon, Legislature--how about 10% ACROSS THE BOARD?
