Suspect is the key word.  Again, he wasn't convicted of anything.

These type of crimes have a ridiculous amount of false accusations, and even false convictions.  They're an area where people hardly ever ask for proof or credibility, they just assume the person must be guilty.  It wasn't until DNA evidence that people started realizing how often people either lie or have false memories.
