Nothing you can do. Your politicians at the state level are paid off and controlled by big business. Factory farmers.
The only thing you can do is form a family farm movement. Solicit big money from your members and pay them off with even more money to get your way.

Well that stinks...
I wouldn't doubt that hormel foods has their fingers in all of the confinement facilities going up around the country side one way or another.
The one going up by London is a lot larger than what the people in that neighborhood were led to believe. And the person putting up the facilties happens to work in the office that approves such operations.
Can't remember where I heard it but in order for a pig to be counted as one head they have to weigh a certain amount and that baby pigs are only counted as a half a pig. I can't confirm this though. Must have had that conversation over a beer.
EPA may also be an avenue for you.

I have a friend that lives near Jim Nelsons trucking business. I had coffee with him yesterday and we were discussing a similar problem. Nelson runs a trucking business out of an agricultural area. He is running heavy equipment on a gravel road and has destroyed the road beds. I noticed the intersections to blacktopped roads were destroyed by the trucks cutting the corners too. My friend tells me that his grandchildren couldn't have a swimming pool in the yard last summer because of the dust. Within two hours of putting up the pool there was nothing but muddy water in it. Of course Nelson wouldn't slow the trucks down or put down any dust prooffing , so there was nothing anyone could do. My friend tried to talk to Jim, and he talked to Sue Miller and the sheriff and nobody could help him . I suspect your problem is about the same, only you have the smell to put up with too. I don't think the EPA or anyone else will help you either. Good luck and hang in there.

Nelsons a genius. Got himself elected as a county commissioner which insulates him from the Sheriff and everyone else. In fact, he can even burn tires and on his property and the county officials ignore it.
If people don't like this, why do they elect his sorry arse. You get the government you deserve.
This is really the biggest problem with the area. The people seem intent on voting for the worse people possible.

They dont raise hogs for meat any more they are raised for the manure, no kidding the manure is worth more than the hog. Chemical fertlizers are to expensive and hog manure gets the same results. It can be used on organic ground and organic corn is about 6.00 a bushel. So all the land comming out of CRP is going organic. Get used to the rough road and the stench it isnt going anywhere.

This thread strikes me as funny. I often could smell the Farmstead site out at my place depending on the way the wind was blowing. I live out in the country north of 90. People didn't complain about the smell because it was the smell of $.
Not that I disagree with what has been said. Just that we all want more businesses and more money generated in the community. But none of us want to deal with the negative side effects it seems.
