I am critical of an over funded football program when so many other facets of the 241 education system are underfunded. I have said it before, and I will say it again. Its great that little Jimmy can run the football like a deer, or pass it like he has a shotgun for an arm, but if the little bugger can't read or do basic math there is a problem. Not unless you are one of those people that think that sports prowess earns you a free pass and a personal assistant do take of you your entire life. That my friend is why I am critical of the sports programs.

I dont understand how one has to do with the other. Unless you are saying that money equals a better education. Kind of like government? I would like to imagine that better teachers make for a better education. If you don't believe there are many life lessons to be learned on the playing field, then obviously you were not an athlete or coach. But back to the Tigers. They are a 4A team playing in a conference that has four 5A teams, any school would have a hard time being competitive in that situation. Having said that AL is a very, very respectable 4-4 in their last eight games and 3-2 in their last five, all big nine games except for the Waseca game to start this season. I think that few realize that a 4-4 season for the Tigers would be monumental for the program considering their schedule. Clay Anderson and the kids are on the right track, I guess if you want to criticize the education they are getting, do somehing to improve it, but dont advocate taking football away from them because you have an old ax to grind for being left off the team as a youngster. CalcuttaClipper, keep up the positive posts on the Tigers, you and a few of the others do a fine job of praising the kids for their hard work and dedication. My prediction, they could go 4-4, but more realistic is 3-5, like I said, pretty darn respectable.

Looked like they had good 1st half against Mayo. The long return(I think it was a return my attention was somewhat divided) and the interception.
That was impressive.

Maybe a couple wins will get more kids out to participate next year. Congratulations to the kids & program for the big improvement.
My grandson plays [not A squad] and says that they barely have enough kids to have a full practice.
Acknowledging the we had more kids in school back in my day [almost 50 years ago,] we had 88 kids come out for B squad football. Still, that would translate to about 50 kids today.
I guess lots of other things are competing for a kid's time.

I found the info.
Mankato East = 35
Albert Lea = 34
Over-time heart breaker loss.
PS. The effort and hard work is there this year.

Thank you ike for letting wolfie know the rule about having the student having good grades to be able to play in the game. And for the game played on friday night the tigers have nothing to be ashamed of nor do they have to hang their heads low. kudos to the albert lea tigers.
