Police follow trail to two thieves Publishing date: 04-26-2004 7:12 PM
(KAAL) -- You've probably heard the saying that "criminals can leave a trail behind".
Well, this past weekend, a couple of alleged vandals did just that, literally.
An Austin cab driver passing by the Tendermade restaurant about 2am Saturday spotted two people breaking into the business.
He called police, who upon arrival found the front door had been kicked in, and the cash register stolen.
However, the would-be thieves did not realize as they were running with the register, that the roll of "register tape" used to print receipts, was unraveling behind them.
Officers followed the 100-foot long tape and found the two suspects hiding in some bushes.
A 14-year-old Austin juvenile and 21-year-old Jason Carl Olson were arrested and charged with felony burglary.
