I did not know that irisheyes, which begs the question even more, why is he getting his new position? Some payoff to keep secrets? What? I really don't understand the whole thing. The people begin to push to get him out loudly enough that finally the politicians realize they have to do something, so they laterally transfer him? That was the solution? In effect more power, money and authority with less control for a person some would like investigated? The whole thing was just another Bizarro World story. Now I hear he is ready to retire, then why the new position?

Total crime reports in North Mankato drop from year before By Mark Fischenich
Free Press Staff Writer NORTH MANKATO — The size of the North Mankato police force was down a bit in 2003 because of budget cuts, but crime was also lower across the board.
Total crime reports - ranging from assaults to noise complaints - dropped 14 percent from just more than 4,000 in 2002 to 3,511 last year, according to the annual report presented this week to the North Mankato City Council. And the reductions were spread fairly evenly across all categories of crime, accidents and other police calls.
"I couldn't really take a group of calls-for-service and say 'Oh my gosh, that's where we're ahead,'" Police Chief Mike Pulis said.
Burglaries dropped from 13 to 5, criminal sexual conduct cases declined from 13 to 8, car thefts fell from 18 to 11, assaults dipped from 55 to 51, damage to property plunged from 328 to 183, drug cases slid from 25 to 17 and harassing phone calls plummeted from 102 to 58.
The 2003 numbers were more comparable to, but still lower than, 2001, when 3,706 reports were filed.
Arrests and citations were also down in almost every category, notable exceptions being for speeding and failure to stop at stop signs and semaphores.
North Mankato, which has had steady population growth, has seen a correspondingly steady increase in crime over the years, Pulis said. A bad economy also tends to drive up crime rates as people get desperate financially and make bad choices.

For over the past week, when I look out of my front window over the tree tops, I see 3 large cranes in the distance, continuously working on the 2 new malls near campus, it is quite remarkable. University Square is huge & gorgeous, first class all the way, Stadium Centre looks nice as well. I agree, life is good in Mankato.
