His parents lived down the block from my parents for about 10 years. He was a big fan of LSD in high school. The first time I met him he was bagging groceries at the old El's gorcery store and told the person I was with that he wished he wasn't working because he had taken 3 hits of LSD before school and it was really hard to work when he was tripping that hard.  He moved to Az after that and became a big fan of cocaine. He got off drugs and moved back here with his parents.

I lost track of him for several years but at some point after that he moved to Iowa got married, had a couple kids and then moved back here and was working at the hardware store in the mall. First time I saw him out there I'm pretty sure he was using meth he was sweating like a pig, huge pupils and talking a mile a minute.  I guess he just quit showing up for work out there about 5-6 months before the murder.

I hate to think that somone I was friends with was capable of a crime like this.  But, if he really did kill the meth dealer for a couple hundreds bucks worth of drugs he should be locked away for the rest of his life.

From what I've heard he doesn't have a prayer with the defense he is planning to use.

That's probably what happened...but last I heard Mammen was working. Maybe he dealt meth, I don't know.

I drove to Mason City that Thanksgiving aftenoon passing through Plymouth and must have drove right by it about the time it happened. I remember as I entered Plymouth I got a very dark forboding feeling. I thought about Albert Lea and the hopelessness what a quiet and crisp day it was. Very solitary like anyone could sneak around today...I didn't see another car all the way down. I drove by it again about the time his friend discovered him dead...it was about 5:30 and getting dark. It was really wierd.

Yup...another two lives lost to meth....the sourge of poor white rural folk all over the nidwest. Even homies in da hood know enough to stay away from that Nazi rat poison!

Yup, he killed his dealer for one last bag of crystal meth...

...meth, she's a dirty beeotch.

Eric Esse was (is) the son of a former HS teacher. One of the best ones I ever had. He ironically taught Human Relations and helped developed I believe a nighttime literacy course. Just goes to show you that even with some of the best parents out there. Crap still happens. We try to educate and guide our children.... No excuses, but the sad reality is.....sometimes, it still happens.  If I could I would say thanks, Rob Esse, you were always a great teacher, and I am sorry about the way things ended with your son( and his victim).
