During Vietnam, I was transferred into a Company that had stopped functioning on an administrative level. The Company got a new CO, Admin Officer, 1st Sgt, and me. We were given a month to clean up a year and a half of our perdition. Long story short, we didn't make it. Pay day of the second month there was a man collecting pay that none of us had seen the entire time we were there. It turned out he was on our morning report, never listed as AWOL, and he would come back to collect his pay every month before taking off for the remainder of the month. No one knew how long it had been going on. We gave him a dishonerable discharge, not for being AWOL, but for stabbing me as I tried to restrain him after he was discovered.
