WASHINGTON (AP) -- Chinese telecommunications companies have agreed to buy $2.3 billion in equipment and communications systems from mainly U.S. firms, a move praised by the Bush administration as a step toward better balancing trade between the countries.
These agreements will help generate corporate revenue, and they will support high-tech manufacturing jobs in many American communities," Commerce Secretary Don Evans said.
Wary of the criticism, China has been on a buying spree of late in America. It has bought jetliners, soybeans and other goods.
Lucent Technologies announced deals worth more than $350 million to provide equipment for both mobile and corded telephone systems. Lucent also will provide equipment and switches to enable phone calls in China to be carried over the Internet through a fast-growing technology known as Voice over Internet protocol. Juniper Networks is involved in the Lucent deals

George, can you explain how Bush deserves any credit for this? Is he now somehow involved in decisions made by Chinese telecommunications companies?

I listened to Bush last night. His health care proposal was totally lacking of any help to those who are uninsured today, or will be with the next premium increase that is coming their way. I also felt that his "just say no to sex" for school kids will be wonderful. Now I realize that this is a Yale graduate and being such he has greater understanding of things like WOMD, Evil Doers, and why we do not need the rights given to us under the Constitution, so I will accept these things I can not do anything about. How ever, this coming November I am going to do something I have never done before, I'm voting anything but Republican! It is my hope that the results will be so resounding that he won't have to use his Yale educated mind to question even one hanging chad!

BeBack-
Yes, I watched the State of the Union as well last night, and quite a few things were disturbing. I too was shocked that he was going to throw more money into the ‘abstinence only’ sex education program (a proven failure) but even more so that he was going to throw $23 million into schools for the sole purpose of drug-testing students to get them to stop using illegal drugs.
What I found the most humorous is when, on the topic of gay marriage, shrub said that he was not going to let a judge put their will onto the American people when it was actually 5 judges who put their will onto the American people by appointing the shrub as president in the first place! Oh the irony…
And with almost an entire hour of speech, why did I not hear him mention Osama once? And how did the Shake-Mohammad suddenly become the mastermind behind 9-11 when I thought it was Bin-Laden? Did it suddenly change because we have him in custody while the real mastermind roams free?
The Democrats could nominate a loaf of bread and I'd vote for that over George W. Bush. I bet the conservatives would even try to discredit the loaf would they would claim the bread is soft on terrorism!

Quote | why we do not need the rights given to us under the Constitution |
Actually, The Constitution does not give or grant RIGHTS, it merely Enumerates them. The RIGHTS you have were yours the day you were born, the main function of the Constitution is to set limits on what gov't can and cannot do. Back when the Constitution was being drafted, there was many arguments by the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists on the wording and what should be enumerated. As the belief in GOD given RIGHTS didn't need to be documented. Ie... Free speech, Right to bear Arms, ect...
Teachers in todays age, teach that OUR RIGHTS are granted by gov't and the Constitution, I use to go round and round with my teachers(college teachers were the worst) on this, and usually got sent to the office.
Don't mean to nit-pick.

As I watched the rebroadcast of the state of the union address I had an epiphany. I was shocked to see this president not only mention WMD, but also describing his massive increased spending that would make Gabe and the merry band of four cringe.
I realized that Bush just doesn't get it and that he's definately finished next election.
