Someone on the Forum sent me a nice E-mail last week (you know who you are) just to "talk" and compare notes on similar experiences after something I said on the Forum.

I have never met this individual, we have argued and agreed over points--yet they went out of their way to not only compare thoughts in a PM, but to offer a unique gift as well.

I thought about it--often--and the more I thought about it, the better I felt.  For all the "flaming" that goes on here, there are some pretty nice people on the Forum.  Beyond the offer of a gift (which I would like to reciprocate) was the idea of sharing common thoughts on a subject in a PM--perhaps thoughts and observations not meant for the general reader.  The person sending it thought enough to take the time to send it only to me--a nice gift in itself.

Several of you send PM's of encouragement and advice over the Tony Trow fiasco--thank you for those, as well.

I'd like to "pay it forward"--pass on the kindness.  The best gifts are like this one--not for some special occasion--but just right out of the blue.  Don't be surprised if you receive a PM--I'm just passing on the kindness shown me.

Now, I don't want anyone thinking that with all this "touchy feely" stuff that I'm turning into a Democrat, or something! :D

It is quite a scary scenario, and a reflection on where our community and country are headed, if anyone agrees with Jim and his misinformation.  Wow

DORKid--You add SO MUCH to any conversation. :sarcasm:   Never a thought, idea, or looked-up-fact--just a flame.

Just because you have a hand-holding butt buddy to take long soapy showers together with--Gomer--you'll never be alone--just the two of you. :p

Don't worry about getting a PM, DORKid--you are irrelevant.

School must be out, right, Dor Kid? :dunce:

You and Gomer been to any "Code Pink" parties?

Wow, that last post was truly disturbing, especially the very discriptive shower part.  I thought this was going to be one of those hallmark moments.  Kind of like when you see the mormon commercials on T.V. and it puts everything in perspective.

When speaking of DORKid, it puts it in perspective, all right! :D

Kid seems to enjoy his little "flame" game. Perhaps he is "flaming" in another way. Who knows and who honestly cares? Not I. Jim this topic is a good idea. Thanks for starting it. Hopefully Dorkid will get the idea and try to post something sensible and relevant.  :sarcasm:

I've noticed few complements are ever given. It's easy to rip someone anonymous and it's easy to be an Ass when no one knows who you are.

Respect is earned- either through thoughtful discourse or by accomplishment. Rep Dan is the only one here that has a public record of accomplishment. The rest of us are left to only be the people whose words here represent us. Some of us know others. Others know no one.

The only one here I know in person is Scurvy Dog. I've said it before and I'll say it again. He's an incredibly bright individual and very talented. Growing up he was hilarious because his perspective was always bigger than the world around him. I also see him respecting the forum and the individuals who post in it- and I see others respecting him (except when he makes remarks that deserve reproach, even then he's thoughtful an apologetic).

I've ripped TTT pretty hard. I don't even know him. He annoys me on the forum but I think he's pretty harmless and I think he could be a friend.

It seems to me that what people might read on this forum if they are researching the town is what their impression of the town could be.

I know that life is difficult at times and AL has it's problems. I'm now only looking in as an outsider and I thank everyone in the forum for tolerating my arrogance at times. I don't mean it as a "look down" attitude. I just have so many ideas that I think could help. We have many problems where I live too- housing costs on the west coast are out of control. Cost of living and traffic will make a man crazy if he focuses solely on that.

I would like to thank Liberal for hosting (I think you host it??). I think it has facilitated some really good discourse from what I can tell in my brief tenure here.

Here's to you, Albert Lea.
