What happened to the cheap gas prices we were experenceing for the first couple of months after the new Wal-Mart opened? Anyone have any insight to why the prices have jumped back up? For awhile there we were about 20 cents a gallon cheaper that everywhere around here, including the twin cities.

Guest and Mel you are both screwing brain dead if you don't know why. Isn't it ok to be profitable Mel. Call the gas compainies, don't blame the retailer.

Don't you guys watch the news? The prices went up because the refineries are putting out more for home heating.

In addition to Angel's post, part of the problem was the shutdown of the Alaska Pipeline Valdez oil terminal due to the "high terror alert". Another was the snowstorm that went south of us a week ago, but hit the East Coast, shutting down refineries for a couple of days, then having them convert to heating fuel.
While there has not been time for the "shortages" to hit the marketplace, oil futures commodity trading is very volatile, going up and down on the flimsiest pretext or rumor.
While I don't track auto gas prices, both our aviation gas price at the wholesale level has increased almost 20 cents in the last 3 weeks. Jet fuel (as distillate closely related to heating and diesel fuel) is up 16 cents.
