So, my dad has to start kidney dialysis. He is up at the VA right now getting his body set up for it, and then he will start on a regular basis. So my mom said, well at least we live in Albert Lea, and it will not be to bad to drive in 3 times a week. Wrong! There is a waiting list here of 8 people. The closest they will be able to go to is Rochester or Mankato! First off, I cannot believe there is that many people on dialysis. If there is, why can't these places be on a 24/7 schedule? My folks would rather come into town at 10:00 at night, 3 times a week than drive to Rochester. They are also both 88 years old. What a thing to look forward to the rest of your life. I know nothing can be done, at this time; I just had to get it off my chest.

It only takes about a month or less to get into Healthreach but that trip to Roch every other day really sucks.
Pops would have to go back to Roch for blood.. Sometimes they lose more blood than their body can produce..
Enjoy your time with the old man.. Sincerely..

Found out today, he will be going to Faribault so that is not too bad. We have relatives that live there also.

Knew a fellow that had similar health issues as your father, he had the option for home dialysis but chose the clinic. Told me the worst of it was restricted liquids and diet.
It may not seem fair but kidney failure can happen to young folks too, at least your father had a full life and a loving son to help him through this..
