Quote | After receiving $8,500 in donations and sponsorships from local organizations and companies, $4,000 of which came from the city, the event pulled in $4,500 on its own. Slette said that money will be put toward future events.
She said they hope to raise the same amount and more for next year's festival. | Albert lea Tribune
Ok ... I'm confused. We are raising money .. to raise money? I don't ever remember hearing about this event. Anyone go to this? I'm not really aposed to this idea, I'm just confused as to why you would hold a fundraiser .. just so you can have another fundraiser to raise money for yet another fundraiser.

I hope it was the success the paper makes it out to be. Didn't go myself, but there's no reason Albert Lea can't have its own celebration like Emmon's Borderfest, or Wells' Kernel days.

Maybe they should pay back the city the $4,000 they got from it and didn't spend. The way the article reads the celebration made a profit. Someone must have attended one of those new schools of accountantcy. I know it wouldn't have cut muster as a profit in any of the books I kept.

Let's put the kids in the school district to work FOR the district selling treats door to door with the money earmarked for teacher pay raises.

I would agree, it would be better, for now, if the money donated by the city was given back to the city; considering the current financial straights. But, then again, I do not live there, so I really have no load-bearing opinion on it.
