Hopers & Changers imagined their votes for Obama would bring economic justice(more cash in THEIR portfolios). So-called progressives Dreamed equitable healthcare raining down like manna from medical insurance giants in the sky. It was Hoped millions of capitalist zealots would "see the light" on difficult issues like climate change, gun control, endless war, widening economic disparity, immigration. Their votes a magic wand of Change. No need for civil protest, personal sacrifice. No need for effort beyond the voting booth and keeping their balance on the fence.
There's more to Denying than ignorant hillbillies. So-called "normal" crowd will not admit their highly orchestrated balancing act is cancerous, morally deficient, unsustainable. A few gains on social issues is no test of viability. The elephant in the room stands untouched---oligarchy.
Middle Class Normality is collapsing under wanna-be-millionaire bloated lifestyles. Growing herd of angry fascist Trumpies to the Right, angry poor on both Right and Left.
A fresh coat of paint on dated rot infested picket fences. That's conservative normality. Go with it.

Our country has changed drastically over the past 60 years.. The wife was once the volunteer in different clubs and involved with PTA.. Mothers structured their children's lives between home, school and church.. They got the groceries, baked the bread and had breakfast and dinner on the table.. They also cleaned the house and did the laundry and were there to greet their kids and husband when they arrived home from school and from a job..
Those days are gone and now we have two income homes that are required to support a dysfunctional family with meager salaries and a lack of structure.. Who has time to volunteer anymore?
Future Lucy's and Mrs. Cleaver's had to hang up the apron for an income and men had to start doing laundry and dishes after work..
Decades of War has taken a toll on the American family structure and wealth..

Did Ozzie & Harriet invest their earnings and time in distant banks, distant lands, derivatives? More likely they invested in their community banks, spent time helping neighbors, and didn't need to rent a garage for all their "stuff". Our communities are both financially and culturally hollow. If we survive decades of endless work we retire on a beach in Florida, further draining resources. Community loyalty becomes passe, lost in time.
There were a number of opportunities during my lifetime to leave for better pastures. I chose to stay in order to secure a long-time small family business.
Spouses work at national & global chains like Slavemart, McDucks, and factories further draining local resources. And for wages that cannot even pay daycare bills.
If some folks are satisfied with this "normal"...then our expectations of one another have plummeted.
Within the last 60 yrs there has been possibly a dozen or so years free of Americanized war, with far less sharing the burden. I suspect my kids will live their complete lives within the shadows of war.

America has been in wars since the start, and not much time inbetween. We're human, we have disagreements, sometimes even barbarous.
