I wonder what criteria they ("they" meaning our local officials, elected or otherwise) use to determine whether or not to press charges against someone, or to terminate them from their position.
I am envisioning some Machiavellian infrastructure, where you don't make waves with someone who has dirt on you or who can help further your career. If you can neither benefit someone nor expose their dirty secrets, you have no purpose.
