I don't think Dollar General sells prescription cough syrup, and your link says that it's made with it.
If a white kid bought sprite, candy and cough syrup would you think anything of it?

I didn't say it was prescription cough syrup. The Martin kid may have been purchasing items for his drank at a convenience store. I don't think they sell presdcription cough syrup there either.
Is there anyone in your world you don't try to argue with?

Try reading slower. The link you supplied says purple drank is made with prescription cough syrup, last I heard Dollar General doesn't sell that. If it would have been a young white man buying those things I doubt you would have thought it was to make purple drank.
According to your link purple drank is made of Sprite, prescription cough syrup, and grape Jolly ranchers? So you think someone buying Arizona Ice Tea and Skittles could have been up to no good?
Using that logic George Zimmerman may have been looking for a woman to sexually assault that night when he decided to hunt down and kill an unarmed child.

You're both right. Anything with DM in it (dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant) can get you "high" if you ingest enough of it. I've usually seen it with Coricidin cough and cold (CCC, TripC, skittles) over the last few years locally. It can be bought OTC. I believe "purple drank" is more commonly made with a phenergan/codeine cough syrup, which is a stronger cough suppressant and is prescription only.

Nobody said you couldn't get messed up on OTC cough syrup. I met some Marines in the 80's that would choke down a whole bottle of robotussin DM and call it getting robotized.
My point is that you'd have to be flat out racist to think that a young black man in Dollar General is buying Sprite, cough syrup and candy to make a drug. If it would have been a white kid I'm sure he would have thought the kid had a cold.
But don't worry these teabaggers aren't racist at all and only oppose the President based on his policies. Most of them forgot that the President was even black.

Most of them forgot that the President was even black. Or perhaps race didn't come into play when suspecting drug use. Perhaps it was the ingredients alone, due to the War on Drugs, and all the warnings we are fed daily about people buying any item that can possibly be used to manufacture drugs.
I have a white, male friend who was questioned for buying baby formula for his then-infant daughter. Apparently, baby formula can be used to manufacture meth, so by golly, we'd better question anyone buying it.
If my friend had been black, would it have been racist to suspect him? Or would it have been a result of the anti-drug paranoia the police state is selling?

It wasn't his skin color. I figured he was a college student considering his age, his dress and only three blocks from the campus.
He also stood in line at the checkout for a few moments, then set the cough/cold medicine in amonst the packages of gum near the checkout counter and left. Two-three minutes later, he walked back in and went down an aisle and returned with the soda and candy; came over and grabbed the medicine and went to a different checkout line across from me. If he hadn't set the medicine in amonst the gum and candy behind me, I probably wouldn't have even noticed it. I WAS going to grab the medicine and set it on the counter for the employee to return it to its proper shelf.
