I don't have an issue with them recording either. However - do you think they'd be okay with us having a camera in our car recording them if we are pulled over?

:violin:  Wolfie,  I think you may have your blinders on! With all the laws and rules being added every year it is hard not to make a mistake .  Officers should be required to use voice recorders. It will help with accurate police reports .

I'd prefer they have something to protect both themselves and the people they pull over or when they respond to a call.

It's not as straightforward as you would like Wolfie. I would prefer they have it so it would protect my taxpaying a$$ from having to pay for a lawsuit that could have been prevented if this type of system was used. How many times has someone sued the Police Department over some frivolous reason and they got away with it because the police could not provide sufficient proof that what they did was well within their guidelines? It would also protect the "perp" from some overzealous cop or cops.

I agree!  

It's frustrating for a person who reports a crime or who is accused of a crime when a police report isn't accurate.  

With all the technology now, why are some officers still using a note pad to jot down a few lines and then filling in what other details they recall by memory later when they have time to complete their reports?  

There's just too much time that elapses between when an officer has interactions with the public and the time they write their report for them to remember each important detail and sequence of events accurately.

There's also the risk of the communication with other officers about the public interactions they each have that could potentially create a bias for or against a person that would be reflected in a report, especially in smaller communities.

Aren't there laws for the protection of law enforcement to prevent the public from suing them for most any reason?  

What are frivolous reasons?
