From the Tribune: "Baker initially motioned to allow the Svendsens an indefinite time to come up with a plan, but he changed it to be two weeks."
So on Monday, the council was going to vote to condemn a building for removal? The owners come earlier in the afternoon and say they want to save the house. They need some time, apparently, to come up with a plan - to which the Fire Chief says they don't have a plan right now.
And Baker wants to initially give them an indefinite time to come up with a plan?

From the Albert Lea Tribune • Voted to give Steven and Jolene Svendsen of Southview Lane two weeks to come up with a plan to save the house at 316 Railroad Ave.
The property was up before the council for an order for removal; however, the couple indicated earlier in the afternoon that they wanted to try to keep the house and tear down the garage.
“At this point, I don’t know that he has a plan,” Fire Chief and Building Inspector Paul Stieler said. “He needs to develop a plan and a timetable, something along this line, if he intends to repair the house.”
Baker initially motioned to allow the Svendsens an indefinite time to come up with a plan, but he changed it to be two weeks.
The property at 316 Railroad Ave. was deemed unfit for human occupancy on April, 9, 2007, and during a follow-up inspection made on Sept. 9, 2008, the inspection department identified it to be “dilapidated, unsanitary and inadequate in maintenance creating a fire hazard,” according to city documents. Documents state the property owners, Steven and Jolene Svendsen of Southview Lane, were sent a notice by regular and certified mail on Dec. 10 that the situation would be up before the council. Staff received no response until the day of the meeting.

I think the Svendsen family had plenty of time to come up with a plan. They blew the city off on this project.
I think they should of called in the WREAKING BALL.
Alot of people push there limits in this town, and the council always gives in.

Which Moens? Greg and Jodi?

It seems we are quick to blame city or county officials for being part of a big bad machine, but then turn around and are quick to point fingers when they give some leeway. What gives? Discuss.

Tonight's meeting should tell the tale. They gave the people 2 more weeks,(after giving them over a year) to decide the fate of their property. I hope they tear it down. This reminds me of the McKenna building downtown. Had all the time in the world to do something about the problem and then, when the councilors finally said time is up, then out of the blue there is a buyer (supposedly). And then that fell thru-imagine that.
