If we are truly against drugs and drug use, then why do we tolerate these two substances...both of which are known toxic and addictive drugs. If they were invented today, they'd be considered dangerous "designer drugs" and be schedule 1 narcotics, no doubt, punishable by mandatory 20 year terms, no parole. Would that be right.. Would you support that?
Why are people against drugs, yet FOR other drugs like Geo? Isn't that hypocrisy of the highest order?

Alcohol and cigarettes are prohibited. They are only legal for adults. You keep saying that smoking pot never killed anyone. That may or may not be true.Could it be that some of those people that died of lung cancer smoked pot? I don't think they print in the obituaries that someone died from smoking a cigarette either. They also don't print in there when some one dies of stupidity. They usually call that an accident.
-------------- A conclusion is simply the place where you got tired of thinking.

Minnow is right that alcohol and tobacco are drugs whose abuse has been much more harmful than pot and I understand his frustration with those too stubborn, stupid or prejudice to realize it. They are legal drugs, but none-the-less a huge problem for a society that has been unable to ban them. I personally favor legalizing pot for both moral and economic reasons (jobs and taxes!), but I think the bottom line is that doing so would only add to the alcohol and tobacco problems.

why do you think that?
Other then the last sentence, I agree 100% with your post!!! Can you imagine if farmers were allowed to grow marijuana to sell at market? That would truely be a cash crop!!!

Yes, I concur. It's like you "brain farted" right as you finished.
" personally favor legalizing pot for both moral and economic reasons (jobs and taxes!), but I think the bottom line is that doing so would only add to the alcohol and tobacco problems."
No, on the contrary, it greatly reduce alcohol and tobacco use like it has in every country it's been decriminlized in. The tobacco and alcohol industry is very keen on this and that's why they spend 10's of millions to to keep cannabis schedule 1. Given a choice, millions of lives would be saved.
One day society will see the big picture and realize the insanity. I can just see it now. In 100 years people will look back and think, that guy, kid dyn-omite must have been miserable living with the cavemen of his day.

The do-gooders are winning and the general climate now is that alcohol and tobacco are serious problems with no easy solutions. Smokers are persecuted. No smoking anywhere - even outside. Higher life insurance rates for smokers but not for other health problems such as obesity. People are frowned on for smoking or drinking. Schools teach the kids that drugs and alcohol are horrible - turn in your parents. DWI enforcement is getting out of hand at .08 and nobody seems to mind when cops pull you over with no probable cause. There is no test to determine DWI for pot.

Frustrated, some obese people cannot get life insurance because of the health risks. The smokers can still have the option fo getting the insurance. Also there are super preferred rates if your height corresponds with a healthy weight and you are a non smoker. Just wanted to clarify that.

This isn't about insurance. Why must it all boil down to $$. That's irrevelent and only swerves the issue for the sake of this discussion. I subsidize YOU!
Let me explain. I'm self employed, so I don't have employer based insurance. I have no insurance. I pay all my dental and medical bills in cash. I've set aside $150,000 to cover any health related expenses I may incur. As such, I don't have the bargaining power of your insurance company...so the hospital charges me double or even triple that it does you. If I want my bills reduced, I must go to court at my own expense(while sick). Basically, I must pay them what they ask. And they ask more when I'm paying. I subsidize you and help make up for hospital short falls. They place the burden on me, by charging me more. See how dat works?

If it isn't about insurance mini-kid, than why did you just have an entire post on the subject. I truly hope you never have a major illness such as cancer, or get in a near fatal crash where you have to be hospitalized in intensive care. Your $150,000 isn't going to get you very far! That is pocket change when it comes to something more than a routine physical or a visit to the doctor for a sore throat. Most people pay these visits anyway, it is called a deductible!

Yep, and then gubment employee's whine about pay. Or complain about Walmart employee pay. When they have millions in health insurance coverage. Walmart covers its employees. Haven't you seen the "Mayo" commercial?
