You should be ashamed of yourselves!
Taking 25,000 of tax money for your building facade...
Yes, let's TAKE from the taxpayers and GIVE $25K to these lawyers.
Pure sickness.

Why is it that every time there is a post that is totally stupid it is started by Stone Magnon ? He either has no brains or has ruined the few he had on drugs. Any business that can get money or further more any one that can with a right mind is gonna take it.

Why do these businesses get taxpayer money in the first place? It's totally wrong.
Taxing ourselves to pay for the lawyers office upgrades is ridiculous. The system is just plain wrong and all out of wack. And we wonder where all the money went...8 million to dredge that will do nothing...the list goes on and we are broke, jobless and homeless. We need new leadership.
Here you guys complain and complain about excessive taxes yet somehow I'm the bad guy on this. Let's all chip in and give a $25,000 gift to some lawyers...that sounds like a good use of public money.

Is it a loan, or was the money just given to them? If this is about the business being brought up to newer city guidelines, are other businesses being given this same deal?

I totally agree with you, Stone. If they want a new store front, let them pay for it! Dredging the lake? If you live on the lake and want it dredged, pay for it yourself. Money for a bike trail that goes over Albert Lea Lake? Will that be any more used than the bike trail on Front Street? $1.6 million for a new taxiway and lights for the airport? The City only has to pay 5% and the rest comes from the federal government? What is 5% of $1.6 million? Too much! And, the list goes on and on!

1) 2008 County puts $10,000 a year for 3 years into Broadway Ridge Renewal Grant Fund after Albert lea request we help to fund it. We no longer put any money into it.
2) Jan 2003 County Attorney Sues and Wins Nelson and his attorney, Bob Goldman, appeared at the board meeting Dec. 30, and indicated $80,000 as a threshold. The board chose to let the court decide instead of settling the lawsuit. We lost.
3) 2007 COUNTY ATTORNEY SUES AND LOSE County Attorney Craig Nelson was reelected, and soon after taking office, he sued Freeborn County in an attempt to increase his salary, as he did successfully four years ago. This time a Steele County judge ruled in Freeborn County’s favor. We won Goldman Craig Nelsons Attorney cost taxpayer lots of $$$ to defend .
4) 2011 from the AL tribune The two projects approved for funding Monday were the Goldman, Sturtz & Halvorsen Law Firm, 137 N. Broadway Ave., and Youth for Christ’s The Rock, 116 W. Clark St. According to city background information, the law firm project is estimated to cost about $52,500 and would thus be eligible for up to $25,000.
Taxpayers now are paying to fix a building for lawyers who cost taxpayers many $$$ defending and paying for higher wages for the County Attorney.
Make money suing the Taxpayers
Make money suing the County Board
Wait its not enough.
Lets get more money from the people who paid to defend against those suits. And lets repair the facade on our building.

^ Occuping the store front of the firm will get you nowhere. There will always be someone else to take their place.
The energy should be spent at government center where all the madness occurs.
Sturtz Jr. is a bleeding heart Republican and should be ashamed for taking a hand out in this economy when there are others less fortunate. Leading by example apparantly has no meaning in this day and age.
-------------- It's not that I don't believe in helping the poor or less fortunate, where I disagree with you is how much we help before it becomes a permanent crutch in ones life. It is not the fault of the person making $2,500,000 or $250,000 for the person making $25,000. nuff said...
