the article should have asked the question: Is It Hard to Make a Living in Albert Lea?
Good point. That would have be a more appropriate topic, and one that would get people talking. I don't think Tim would take on something like that though, because it would be THE EDITOR saying THERE AREN'T JOBS HERE.
I am thankful to do work I enjoy for a company that treats its employees well. However, I recognize that that isn't the case throughout Albert Lea. We DON'T have many professional jobs, because we haven't moved past being a meatpacking town - and the packinghouse is gone.
Thanks, Dorman and Sparks, for keeping us in a state of arrested development. Owatonna and Faribault are now larger by far than Albert Lea, population and industry wise. Austin is now 5,000 more than we are. And the more we spend and tax to "build it so they will come", the more people will leave because we can't sustain the taxes with no real growth.
By 2030, I would guess Albert Lea has fewer than 15,000 people living here.
