It's not the old Maid-Rite, is it?  :dunno: Man, I wish that place was still here.  Loved the place....mmmm good!

Well  tweet go to Lake Mills and go to the Grand.  It used to be their Maid Right.  They still sell what they now call crumble burgers.

You are correct they are mmmm good.

Elbow Room?

I think the Elbow Room opened in '54.

My guess would be the Chef Cafe.

How about an "old box car diner" behind the old Wallaces store, that had caught on fire but this photo looks like the diner after the remodeling? What was the name of the diner though? :dunno: It's my dads guess  he said he used to go in there. :)

Have to go with the old Maidrite. There is still one in Austin with pretty much the same set up. Wish they had the same prices.

I'll give a hint.  It used to be on S. Newton street.  I think it was torn down in the '60's, but I'm not entirely sure.  I'll post a picture of the outside of the building when I get home from work this evening.

well that blew my guess
The name that appears on the calendar is Midway Super Service, there once was a small restaurant gas station that sat on the Boyd & Jacks site which is now the Nelson's and toco bell..
Check out those prices Pork Chop Plate .75 Hamburger Steak .65 Pancakes .25..

Getting close, Expatriate picked up on the Midway calendar clue but led in the wrong direction.

My guess is the small building that used to be where the parking lot is now at the southwest corner of Newton and William, north of the Qwest telephone building.  I don't remember it as a diner/restaurant, but as an insurance office, Harvey Botten's I think, before he moved to the old bank building, maybe Finn Nannested's (sp?) office.

The Midway station would have been right across the street on the southeast corner of Newton & William.

Definitely not the old Lakeside, the orientation is wrong as to the location of the door and the seating counter.  Similar reason it's not the Maid-Rite, that had a U-shaped seating counter, with the door opposite the kitchen end.  The layout fits the small building on S. Newton though, the door would have opened out to the sidewalk on Newton.  As I seem to remember it, the building had either striped awnings or maybe a striped shingle roof, it had kind of a cottage design to it.

It is a great picture.  We are poorer for not having as many small diners such as this anymore.  Looking forward to seeing the picture of the outside.  Thanks for sharing Glu.

I talked to an aunt and i think she is the smaller lady in the picture. If it is her she said she worked at "Park and Eat" by the telephone company.

Grandma G your aunt got it right!  If that is your aunt, then that solves another mystery for me...I was always wondering who the smaller lady in the picture was!  The taller lady was my grandma.  She owned the restaurant for a while.  :D  If your anut wants a copy of the picture, I'll gladly make one for her!

When I get home I'll post the outside picture of Tennyson's Park 'N Eat.
