Isn't that one of the original names for what is now/was the Lea Center Building?Knew I had seen the name somewhere before... I've noticed in many of the old photo's that the cars are parked in the middle of the street--I've asked several people why--the two most probable answers are "so horses can be hitched to a lampost or hitching post (some towns had tiedown rings in the sidewalks)--"because it would be hard to back a team and wagon up if pulled into a slot in the center"--and a similar "street widths were usually wide enough to turn a team around, since they couldn't back up easily--that's why horses were on the outside". I'd always assumed it was just the high percentage of scandinavians in the area, but you're probably right though. It makes sense that you'd want to have a horse and wagon parked parallel to the buildings otherwise you'd have a heck of a time backing out of a parking stall.
