Would like some opinions on Windows OS, they still have some computers out there with Windows 7.  I don't care for the look or getting use to 8.1, but wasn't sure if there's any other advantages with security or use of resources.

Thanks!

I don't like that each new Microsoft OS is more of a "Windows for Dummies" version than its predecessor. Despite that seeming philosophy, I don't think there are a lot of IT folks in danger of losing their jobs to self-diagnosing computer operating systems.

I consider WinXP to be the zenith of the Windows OS family, with subsequent versions being more about appearance (bells and whistles) and planned obsolescence than about actual core improvements. WinXP was already available in a 64-bit version, so the need for the disastrous Windows Vista was probably more about fixing something that wasn't broken and such than anything else.

Ugh, I absolutely hate Windows 8.1
Corporate is forcing the Win8.1 and taking the ability to customize it out of each local IT dept. hands with their locked image.

Windows 8 sucks

My company is staying Win7.  Windows 8 blows goats imo.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  Especially G.I.L. and Grinning Dragon, always good to have tech gurus chime in on something like this.

I'm going to go with Windows 7.

A bit late on the train here, but my thoughts lie with Win 8 being geared for tablets and touch screens. My biggest frustration with 8 is the app page being first and foremost..and having to have an icon to click to get to the desktop. Aside from that, and the infernal need to go to the Windows store to get what is needed in form of an app, it isn't TOO bad. I have navigated worse.

Windows 7 is definitely the better option between the two, but both are ok depending on what the computer is to be used for. I am currently on a laptop running Win8 (I refuse to upgrade to 8.1), but after three years of messing around with Win7, I prefer that version over 8. XP was ok...but I personally preferred Vista...when it worked. LOL!!

Ugh. Vista. The Windows ME of the NT family.  :frusty:

My last home system before the one I have now was Windows Vista, but it was Vista Ultimate, and I ended up not hating it as much as I thought I would.

I didn't buy it that way. I bought XP Pro, but Dell misconfigured my system, and after sending replacement power supplies, graphics cards, and other parts (and walking me through replacing them), they replaced it outright. However, by that time they were no longer offering XP, and replaced it with Vista Ultimate.

It wasn't as bad as I thought, but I would have rather had XP. I have 7 at work, and have had for several years. By the time I bought my new computer at home, nobody was offering 7 anymore, so I have 8. I hate it. Vista was better than 8.
