Because some of us know each other in real life, but not each other's email address. It's a good way to communicate something privately that might otherwise reveal that information if it were a post, or to discuss something that we aren't going to post here.

Yea sure, that's another possibility.
My personal experience was that it seemed to lean more toward my description.
So I just blocked it a long time ago.
