First of all numbers can be made to say anything you want unless there is item by item description.
That said, our govt has become self serving from the guy working out of the service garage on up to the president. The mind set of even local govt is use it or lose it. Expand your cost so you get more bucks next time around. Well now we have no money. They were correct on comparison to private sector. That money comes out of profit from someone. Our govt does not worry about profit. Now it is time to actually work for what you get paid. I think it has to start at the top and work it's way down. You know, the trickle down theory.
Cut costs where you can and how about taking the retirement bennies back from the top. They mostly are wealthy anyhow but they voted themselves in a cash cow. The term "government job" has become more than just doing something on the side.
Have you ever watched a county or state crew fill potholes? They just throw the blacktop in smooth it out and move on to the next one and let the cars pack it down. Would they do that on their own drive way? Probably not. Now who told them to do it that way. The way I see it, they could of just as well thrown it around the corner from where they got it and quit getting cars dirty.

The article speaks about gov't. spending and the money going into a black hole. Well, I can also tell you that a large portion of that 'stimulus' money is going to non-profits. These non-profits are involved in a variety of projects and/or run programs that are supposed to help with job stimulation and growth. The first thing these non-profits do is add more people to help with these programs. Then, they run classes, do some training, teach people how to do job search, create resumes etc. They can then report back and say 'we served x number of people'. Well, preparing people for jobs that do not exist is like watching porn despite that fact you are impotent.  Non-profits getting this money are buying new computers, doing marketing to increase their visibility...the accountability is a joke. I know, because that is what I am charged with in my job. Sorry for the rant....

A good example of waste is advertising the lottery. How many people are running out to play because they seen an ad? Not many. Remember the old Lottery president? He killed himself? I wonder why?

Isn't job creation the same scam? They create one real job at a high level, which is filled by someone within the organization - whose job in turn has to be filled ad nauseum. They count every job down to the point where they hire someone at the lowest common denominator when only one job was actually created.
Posted by canvasback on Mar. 05 2010,5:19 pm
That pretty much says it. There are also a lot of temporary positions that are created. I know a lot of people who are hired and told they have that position until the money is gone, often in the form of a grant.

An old thread but pertinent

Seems the workers don’t like unions

Posted by was1 on Mar. 23 2022,7:56 am
my thought on unions is they have outlived their useful life.  My understanding is they were originally created to bring better/safer working conditions for workers, get better pay for workers as well as benefits so workers were not being exploited.

in my experience the last many years, those concerns have long been solved and not unions really don't do much more than keep high performers on the same level of the lowest performers when it comes to pay.  additionally, they seem to be all about protecting the low performers from any discipline, corrective action or termination.

Is there still a wage difference between Hormel and Quality pork?

Outlived their usefulness, first smart thing I’ve ever heard come out of your mouth

How about that Mpls school district strike, highest paid teachers in the state

Posted by was1 on Mar. 23 2022,12:59 pm
I have not followed their strike.

but i would like your source that says they are the highest paid, as when I did a quick look (see below) that is not the case.

Why the need to lie?

and all the teachers i know and have been around put up with way too much and spend a lot of their own money on classroom supplies for what they get paid.

From < Mpls Teacher Strike >

In Minneapolis, the demands in pay vary by job designation. Teachers are asking for nearly a 20 percent raise over a two-year period. Their average annual salary is $71,500, lower than neighboring districts that offer teachers salaries upward of $80,000 per year.

Along with higher pay, Roberson-Moody wants Minneapolis Public Schools to take steps to better serve students. That includes more mental health resources in a district where it’s not uncommon for one school counselor to have a caseload of up to 350 students. Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent Ed Graff has said that the district is reserving some of its $90 million in federal COVID relief funding for mental health resources. But educators also want smaller class sizes for students. A six-year district employee, Roberson-Moody said that it’s difficult for students to learn in huge classes and for educators to give them the support they need.

Then go work in one of the other districts, nothing’s stopping them

Premium Heath insurance, full pension, they’ve got it good.

Define full pension and premium health insurance

Also note what the individual teachers contribute to said pension and health insurance

Also, note that the bigger concerns are getting smaller class sizes and also mental health support for the students

Posted by Self-Banished on Mar. 24 2022,6:15 am
^^ yes, I can see where mental health would be a concern of yours
Posted by Brand New Day on Mar. 24 2022,7:17 am
^^yeah and we can all see where remedial education should have been a concern for you.

but luckily for you we live in a time of picture memes and stupidity. . .

so you fit right in.

and yet again, SB is proven wrong and challenged about his postings, and pulls the toddler route of name calling.

it is so sad that he is unable to have a civil discussion and thinks so little of himself that all he can do is resort to name calling and insults.  all it shows is what he thinks of himself.

its never to late to learn and change.

Posted by Self-Banished on Mar. 24 2022,5:46 pm
^^ oh you two or is it one, you should start the assclown club. You could wear masks, compare vaccination spots on y  our arms, swap tips on clown makeup.

It must be a bitch switching profiles back and forth but if you really are two different morons, bonus! You just doubled the assclown membership!

Posted by was1 on Mar. 24 2022,7:06 pm
SB - you really do need some help

I hope you have people in your life that care about you and who are not so scared of you that they will someday point out your sadness and offer to get you the help and support you need to find some peace and happiness in your life.  True peace and happiness not the kind you think you have because you feel you have a lot of wealth and you believe you know more than anyone else

Posted by Self-Banished on Mar. 25 2022,5:25 am
^^ knock of the freshman year psychology, you don’t wear it well.
Posted by was1 on Mar. 25 2022,6:15 am
Such a scared child.  Facts and truth back you into a corner and all you can do is lash out.

The little boy inside you really needs some help

Posted by Self-Banished on Mar. 25 2022,7:07 am
^^ yep, community college psychology, try again assclown
Posted by was1 on Mar. 25 2022,7:13 am
You just tell yourself whatever you need to do you can face the day.

Someday you will come to terms with the suffering you have inside.

It’s really too bad.  Every time you start to maybe have an actual factual discussion in this board as soon as you can’t provide any support for your position or opinions you just resort to name calling and insults.

The low frequency vibration you have and send out here is just not good

And remember

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned

^^ you have no idea how great my life is

in Freeborn County, and this forum in particular. you're going to get mostly two kinds of union opinion.

1) a few anecdotal comments about how when someone worked a union job once and it treated the slacker, the same as the go-getter.

2) union bad, packing house bad, fire bad

think it's bad to lump all unions together based on those 2 things.

in the case of the first example. . slacker can be kind of subjective interpretation. while you're calling some other guy a slacker. there's probably somebody who thinks you're a slacker.

as far as the packinghouse goes: that was a criminal matter. the stealing of pensions and all the related modus operandi.

it was a hip thing to do, though. the start of the. .  business and corps are more important than the people.

that's why if you want American made goods now. . you have to go to an antique store, for the most part.

as Far as Mother Mayor Clinic goes:

they probably throw away more money than it would cost them to pay people more. but can't get away from the corp is always right mindset.

and besides they want the Hassanal Bolkiahs of the world as customers. that's why The State of Minnesota had to fund them all that money.

heated sidewalks, reflecting pools, for billionaire customers.

think they maintain the stream of cattle flow form the surrounding area, just so they can get the bulk discount on gauze and other medical sundries

in Kansas City  they have the stockyards.

in Rochester Minnesota it is the Mooyo Clinic

moooOOOOooooooo

that clinic was founded buy a church

but has since really gone to hell

Those are the exact arguments I used when I was an anti-union republican.  Now that I'm older, and a liberal democrat I realize it's just the wealthy getting the peasants to fight each other so we dont turn on them.
